    Hi Folks!

Just joined and need your input please.

I am interested in getting a Tacoma. After doing some research and reading on this forum, it seems like the 2017s have plenty of issues. Should I wait for the 2018s? I am currently looking at a 2017 Limited 4x4 with the price of $40K (OTD).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

2020 will definitely be the good year.

TW is a great forum. I bought my truck before joining, and always glad I did, since I probably would have been scared off buying my 2016 because of some of the negativity.

I really like this truck, and have not experienced any problems and like the way it drives/ handles.

Many members here will be very happy to help you, but your question comes up again and again.

Here is a thread that might offer some insight

    Good luck and welcome

id say wait til the 2018s come out, if they are substantially better go for it. if not, steal a 2017 off the lot that they are trying to sell. its already 9/17. wont have to wait too long

I am in the same boat. I wanted a 2017 limited, however I want to wait and see what 2018 has to offer. Supposedly leather will be coming to the TRD models, so I want to see what the difference between a TRD Sport w/ leather, premium package, etc and a Limited edition.

Nah, go ahead and the 17. The 18s are gonna have more nanny features. Also, I'm curious why you want the Limited. It's a fine truck, I'm just curious.

The Limited was the first truck I looked at. Other trims are still an option.

Get a 2018 off road with tech and premium. These will come with leather yet have all of the off road features that the limited lacks.

I had a Limited , now I have an OR. I like the OR better and it has everything I wanted form the Limited and nothing that I didn't want: Leather (who cares), qi charging pad(useless anyway), sunroof (will just leak down the road), chrome bs trim (ugly), 'electronic safety features' (they weren't too bad but I'd rather not have them ). Still have the entune 7", bed plug, heated seats/mirrors etc. To me the OR has a better feeling ride and also looks better. Having the OR features if you ever need them is a plus

Ok, yeah I'd definitely encourage you to look at the other models. I think the OR is the best value. If you do not intend to do much offroading, the Sport looks fantastic and may be a good option for you.

OP, I bought a '17 Off Road model, have been more than happy with it. I did take an "extended" test drive, had the truck all day before I bought it and I really enjoyed driving it. I highly recommend that, to be sure you're going to be happy with your purchase. Mine has 3500 miles on it and hasn't given me any issues at all. I'm also very happy I did my own research and actually drive the truck, as there are plenty of differing opinions on the forum here and other sites.

I also looked at the Limited's which I really liked, but I didn't dig the leather. Still got sunroof and heated seats, JBL in the Tech Package addition, so maybe that's worth checking out for you, too.

    Have fun shopping!

Wait, newer truck will hold value longer and price will not go up much from 17.

Another thing to consider. By 2020 or 2022 all vehicles will have Auto Emergency Braking (AEB) standard. Toyota decided to do it earlier than that date, and even went beyond by adding lane departure, auto high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Many luxury brands don't have those safety features standard (besides Lexus), but your 2018 Tacoma will have it.

This will be valuable if you decide to sell it in the future.

With all of those options (besides leather), what differences (if any) are there between your truck and a limited? I am debating which to get for 2018.

I would like leather, all the extra tech features, jbl, and a sunroof.

I chose the off road trim with the Tech Package specifically for JBL, sunroof and seat warmers. It also has the Multi Terrain select and crawl control, rear locking differential and off road suspension, which aren't available on the Limited.

I felt the Off Road had a better ride and was the best value considering features per dollar spent. I do like to do some mild off roading and the truck is far more capable than I need it to be, which gives some extra piece of mind. A Limited would have been perfectly capable as well, but I preferred the different features.

Finally, looks wise, I liked teh wheels and tail lights better on the off road, for what that's worth.

Cool. Thank you for the answer. I will hardly ever go off roading and if I do, it will just be on trails. I don't really care for the chrome but I can always switch that out later.
