Hauled a Good Size Load Today

Hello All,

I have the four leaf rear-springs on my truck from the rear-spring TSB.

Today I hauled 825 pounds of pecan hulls in it and I honestly could barely tell they were back there. They were in this huge bag that was loaded with a forklift. I strapped it down and I cruised right along with traffic on the highway.

She squatted a bit, but I still had several inches of room between the bump stop and the frame. Never hit them, and believe me there are some rough enough roads around here to test that.

My wife actually liked the ride better with the 825 pounds in the back. Go figure.

Based on that I think 1000 pounds is very do-able.

Sweet! Had you tried hauling that kind of weight before the TSB?

 

Not ever that much. I had hauled some sand, concrete and lumber in various combinations and did hit the stops easily.

My truck rides better with some weight as well . But I can definietly say I've never hauled pecan shells ,

Spread it out on flower beds and around trees for a mulch. It doesn't wash away as easily as regular cypress mulch and does not turn grey. So hopefully it will last a while.

 

Top heavy it was! It was in this huge bag that fit between the wheel wells so it stuck up above the cab by three or four feet. Plus we had about 20-30MPH winds today.

Looking out for other drivers also. Pecan shells are pretty hard and afraid I was that since the top of the bag was not sealed real well that they could blow out and hit windshields or chip paint.

Plus I just like to mess with the ratchet belts and stuff.

 

Always strap everything down! It's this kind of thinking that ends up with crazy shit dumped on the freeway in the middle of rush hour. There's a whole separate thread about people who didn't tie things down and how many pieces their stuff broke into when scattered all over the road.

 

When my truck was stock I hauled 1200lbs of stone in my truck for 18 miles of freeway and roads, handled just fine.

 

Never hauled anything super heavy in the bed but I have towed an 16' trailer loaded with a T-Rex and a quad. Started, stopped and drove just fine.

 

pecan hulls huh? cool. i got the TSB done last fall and just carried 1450 lbs of driveway stone like 5 miles..... it did fine i guess. i definitely took it easy over speed bumps and stuff.... that might have been a little much for it.. anything <1000 i think is pretty safe.
