I was hired on by UPS in SoCal many years ago during the holidays as a Hub Loader. It was at a distribution center and in the evenings I would get in the back of a semi trailer. A conveyer would constantly feed packages to me and all I did was stack a vertical wall, from bottom to top, like Tetris, then start over again and work my way from the front to the back of the trailer.

It was hot, dirty work and I hated it. I figured I'd do that until I could get into a driver position. Didn't happen. So many people competing. I'm so very glad it didn't work out. Decent pay but crazy work schedule.

Did this at Specialized bikes for a summer in the 90s. Couldn't have been happier than when I got mobilization orders to Germany.

Hot hard work for sure. Can't imagine doing it for a career.

Its more of a low key wtf, but I was at my dealer today, and over-heard my service manager on the phone with another customer. They apparently went through high water trying to help people during the hurricanes and wanted to get their fluids checked, but didn't know what all needed to be checked. Apparently they didn't know how to tell if you have a 4wd vehicle (to the point of the service advisor asking if there was a 4X4 badge on the vehicle). then once they realized it was 4 wheeled drive, they didnt understand the difference btwn the transfer case and the transmission.

I joked with the service manager that if you don't even know if the car you bought came equipped with it, much less how to use it, you probably shouldn't have bought it.

Haven't yet - but I'll post here if I ever figure it out. There's supposedly legislation floating now to make PINs mandatory, lock everyone's accounts, force the credit bureaus to abide by a stricter set of security controls (the ones I use every day for our medical & financial data), and then make them refund everyone who paid for a freeze since the breach.
Yes, but only one of the three. I haven't been able to get through to the other two due to overwhelming demand on their systems. Folks trying over the phone aren't getting through at all.

If I ran my network security like they did, I'd be criminally liable. The breach occurred because Experian didn't install a set of patches that we got back in March.

    They suck monkey balls.

Only Experian. Equifax timed out and Transunion just gave a "our web servers are tired" message.

I did get the fraud alert activated, and that only takes one agency for it to show on all of them. That gives me a little time to lock down the others.

I was also able to pull my Equifax report and check it for accuracy & signs of shenanigans. Couldn't get the Experian and Transunion ones. The first time I pulled one I had a mortgage going back to before I was born (no wonder I had such good credit at 21) because several of my grandfather's credit items were on my account. Thank goodness grandpa paid his bills on time - I qualified for a house!!

Same here with having young credit, I hope to do the same once I have some little padawans runnings around.

When did you try freezing? I was able to freeze all 3 a couple days ago and started an initial fraud alert (credit bureaus are required to notify the others after you start it with one from what I read from the FTC).

Tips are very much appreciated. UPS says we shouldn't accept them, but there's nothing they can do to enforce that. I've received $100 cash tips, bottles of liquor, gift cards, and more baked goodies than I could possibly eat by myself. I'm on a residential route so I don't actually get to speak with most of my customers but the guys on business routes really rake in the tips.

It's a little late, but the CSO and CIO at Equifax are gone.
    http://www.securityweek.com/equifax-shares-more-details-about-breach

The code that they've been using to manage our credit information is old, and they haven't been updating it. Fuckers.

    The WTF excerpt:
The credit reporting agency announced on Friday that Chief Security Officer Susan Mauldin and Chief Information Officer David Webb had retired from the company effective immediately, and Russ Ayres and Mark Rohrwasser have been appointed interim CSO and CIO, respectively.

Many rushed to point out last week that Mauldin’s LinkedIn profile showed she was a music major with no background in cyber security or even technology. Mauldin has since made her profile private.

“Some people mock Equifax's CSO's music masters degree, however I doubt that many professional cybercriminals have any masters degree at all,” said Ilia Kolochenko, CEO of High-Tech Bridge. “Therefore I'd refrain from judging someone's skills only by his or her education. Only a scrupulous and rigorous investigation can point towards the people who should be responsible and liable for this disastrous breach.”

I am a cybersecurity professional. I have IT degrees and security certifications. They were HARD to get because you have to KNOW what the fuck you are doing to get them. With all that background, some days are a struggle to keep up with everything that you have to do. Then there's THIS idiot with a masters degree in music. Sorry Ilia Kolochenko, I can't support your defense of these assholes. The Struts library vulnerabilities were well known and had existed for some time. We modify our code all of the time when libraries like this change - it's why we keep developers around and don't ever stop working on our custom code. It's never finished. If you didn't have a goddamn music degree, you'd know that. I feel bad for the actual security professionals that worked for you. I wonder, how many times did their complaints about your security issues fall on your deaf ears?

I hope that some good comes of this in that CIOs and CISOs everywhere are afraid for their lives and going to start doing their damn jobs. Scan. Identify. Remediate. Recode. Repeat.

Man tries to barbecue rattlesnake, gets bit on face

    http://www.fox10phoenix.com/news/ar...n-plays-with-rattlesnake-gets-bit-on-his-face

    6.jpg

COOLIDGE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A day of fun quickly turned into a nightmare when one Coolidge man was bit by a rattlesnake on his face.

Victor Pratt was enjoying the day with his kids celebrating a birthday when he came across a rattlesnake. He suddenly decided to grab it and play with it like he used to do back in the day.

"When the kids saw it, I grabbed it. I showed them how to catch it and I was playing with it like little kids do. This is how you play with a snake. I wasn't thinking. I was showing off like I always do and this time it got me in the neck," Pratt said.

It's not his first snake bite, either. He admits he was once bitten before on his hand when he was 19 years old, so he immediately knew what to do this time around.

I know it takes eight seconds for the venom to go through your body, so I went to the nearest hospital and I concentrated on my mind, and just kept my mind strong, stay focused," Pratt said.

Dr. Steven Curry at Banner University Medical Center took care of Pratt while he was in ICU. He says the outcome would have been different if Pratt waited longer to seek medical attention.

"When patients experience face bites with injection of venom, as in this case, our experience is that if an airway is not established in the first few minutes, it usually takes 15 to 30 minutes at the most that patients don't have much of a chance to survive," Curry said.

Pratt says he's learned his lesson, and will not play with rattlesnakes to again.
