Just got back from driving my moms Highlander to town and I finally decided to ask a few questions about my light brightness. On the way back, I took a few pictures of my moms low beams and high beams on a straight stretch right before my house. IMG_0473.jpgIMG_0472.jpg
Her car is maybe 5 or so years old. Should my lights be anywhere close to as bright as hers because... They definitely aren't. I swear her low beams might be brighter than my highs.

Not only is it an inconvenience to have the dull lights but it also kind of sketches me out because that road, as well as many others, is a magnet for deer.

I'll try to get some photos of my lights up tomorrow night but for now you can just assume that mine are less bright by a longshot. What could be a solution for me. Maybe a light bar or new headlights? I think I can get a light bar for kind of cheap (or ditch lights), but I have no clue to the pricing of new headlights.

    A thing or two...
What do your headlight lenses look like? Are they clear or are they yellowed/hazed? Most likely your headlights are just old. You could try a headlight restore kit to see if that makes any improvement. I used one made my Turtle Wax on my passenger side headlight back in Feb/March. It held up for about 6 months, but it is in bad need of redoing again. It's also possible that your headlights are aimed too low. If you've never changed the bulbs they could just be getting old and getting dimmer. New headlights for your year run about $50 for the pair on Amazon.

I would check/adjust the aim and try new bulb and the headlight restore before buying new headlights.

I think Jeremy def asked the right questions here. You could always snap a pic of your headlights condition and then what they look like output at night in comparison to your moms? To be honest, I wasnt really impressed with the lighting in my truck whenever it rained as it just got hard to see. That being said, if the lenses havnt fogged or yellowed, then you could always look to retrofit them yourself. I do adopt a similar philosophy as @TacoFMS as I plan out my upgrades and save for them. I know its tempting to put on the small stuff to help create an identity for your ride, but just dont let these small investments hinder the direction your truck needs to go. Sadly, I know a good amount of folks where money dictates their direction of the build. I know money doesnt grow on trees, but if sales on sketchy components dictate your direction on your ride then you never had direction to begin with. I have retroed my lights and might be able to help depending on my pending schedule that might be taking place.

Yea my headlights are pretty foggy and I haven't done anything to them since I bought the truck last year. I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow at night

I don't have much of a plan for bigger, more expensive mods cause I still have to save for college, apartments and such. I'd love to save up for a bumper or something, but I know that wouldnt be the smartest buy with other, more important life stuff coming soon.

Yours are halogens and hers are probably projectors, depending on what year the highlander is. I see a pretty clear cutoff and a wide throw of light on the low beams, so I am guessing projectors.

I mean the first time you changed their color. Did you plasti dip them or anything? Or are they still chrome?

Just finished applying the plastidip to one of my emblems. I think it's looks really good and I'll do my other ones soon. I started by covering everything around and little rectangle with masking tape and newspaper. I put on a very thin first layer and let it dry. (15-20 min between each coat)IMG_0476.jpg IMG_0478.jpg I then added coats on from every angle.IMG_0479.jpgIMG_0481.jpg I pulled all the tape and newspaper off then pulled away the plastidip and used a toothpick and tweezers to get it out of the corners and the inside of the letters. IMG_0483.jpg IMG_0485.jpgNow I'll have to wait and see how it holds up.

Do y'all think I'll need more than I can of plastidip to do all my emblems (2-Toyota Tacoma's on the sides, 2-SR5's on the sides, 1-big Toyota & Tacoma & SR5 on the back)? I should've thought of this earlier but I don't want to drive 20 minutes to Walmart and another 20 minutes back if I don't have to.

I would think two cans is enough for that. I did all that minus the SR5 emblems for about a can and a half I believe.
