I'd like to camp Sat night. That was my original plan. But it looks like we might just be going up Sun morning-ish for the ride.

Yes but it'll be slim pickings due to being so close to the opening date of the trail. And they've been shutting down the good camp sites, no truck access. For those camping, be careful with the European (sized) hornets. Especially near the lake. Stomping them does not kill them.

So where do you guys camp? Are there certain areas set aside? Can you camp near jumping off rock?

Yep, I've dealt with them and I question why they even exist.
I call them little bastards Cow Ants cause they can take down a cow. My friend's mom got stung by one AFTER it got sucked into the vacuum she was using, and it crawled out. Fire is the only way to deal with them.

Good luck. Let me know if they sting.

I ran like a girl when I saw them. I grabbed my Epi pen and stayed away. Those hornets actually convinced me not to camp there anymore. Hell, a regular yellow jacket lit me up one time when I was out there with Trent. No Epi pen that time, barely made it home nearly two hours later. It's a long slow ride out of those woods, even when you're playing racetruck. I won't camp until it's winter and the bugs are dead. The stinging bug problem is getting bad out there.

haha yea theyre tough little buggars.

yea if youre allergic to stinging things, you best have your epi pen within reach at all times during the summer. I cant wait for winter camping. have you ever hit yourself with the pen? ive never quite gotten to that point. been close, but 6 Benadryl's kept me from dying.

Yeah. Epi pen saved me as a kid. Fell into a nest in the ground and almost died. Luckily I had to pen to save me. I hit a vein and made a bloody mess but I'm still alive!

Much more accurate answer than mine. When we were there earlier this year it was fairly open, but not prime camping weather, either.
