Cotton remains a very common crop in the southeast.

As such, it's also a very common design & decorative element here. Kind of like sumac or lilacs in the northeast.

Just goes to show, people who want to feel offended will find a way to take offense at anything you do.

The older I get the less I GAF about such things.

She just needs to claim it's her form of artistic expression and she'd be lauded.

I'm from Alabama and lived all over the SE. It's a common crop. I'm betting the socks she was wearing are made of cotton. And half the other clothes she owns has some percentage too.

I was slightly surprised to see cotton is a big crop here in California too... wonder when they'll ban that here...

Texas has a lot of cotton too. Our biggest complaint is that you gotta iron 100% cotton shirts. They wrinkle if you look at them wrong.

Pretty soon you won't be able to call The South 'The South' anymore, because it offends people.

While she's at it, she should jump right on a lawsuit against Hobby Lobby because all of their shelves are white, and that's racist!

I was just wondering yesterday if using the term "cotton pickin" is racist? I dunno, maybe depends on context. I think it was the Bugs Bunny cartoon that made me wonder. Ya, I watch cartoons.

My ma used cotton for Christmas decorations when I was a kid. My psyche is now retro damaged.

Its a big crop out there. They have cotton fields on the north side of the Grape Vine in SoCal. My brother actually was driving by the other day with the family and pointed it out to his oldest boy, his son actually was surprised that cotton comes from a plant, but then again he is only 7.

cotton used to be the only "snow" I ever saw on a field. I remember the first time it snowed where I grew up, I thought a cotton bale was coming loose as they were driving down the road.
