You should be able to get a regular transponder key without the remote portion at a locksmith (or online), and have a locksmith or a TW member with techstream program it to the truck for you. Like the link that 18wheels provided.

I would avoid keeping a transponder key locked in the truck. You compromise one of your best security features if you give a thief one of those keys.

Mine was like that, especially into 3rd gear as well. Didn't feel extremely out of the ordinary. I have a car with 150k on it that has the same notchyness and a jeep (125k miles) which isn't even comparable in shifting, notchy is an understatement if trying to shift normally.

As long as you aren't dry on fluid and it isnt grinding or locking you out, some notchyness is normal.

It just feels like the shifter is being held in ever so slightly when I go to shift. This is my first Manual vehicle of any kind and I just want to be sure about what is normal and what isn't which is why I ask a lot of questions. Thanks for you incite.

What do the 3rd gen keys look like? My 2nd gen came with 3 keys. 2 black, one grey. All 3 seem to work the same.

My 08 had those same 3 keys, I think that gray 1 was some kind of Valet key. The key on my 17 has the keyless entry built in, no separate key fob.

If he doesn't take you up on that, I'd love to try one out. I've never used a weighted shift knob before.

I appreciate that! Don't worry about it though. I'll tape a brick to my trd shifter and hope it's close enough :D

Anyone know if these trucks can be bump started with a very dead battery? On my Jeep tj there's something about how since it doesn't have a self exciting alternator it needs at least a little bit of juice left to be able to start, but I'm struggling to find info about that.

Never tried it, but word on the street is that you still need something left in the battery to roll start the truck

here's some shift knobs for fun.

    IMG_20170919_165239.jpg
    from the left:
    - Flossy Grip Rod, with leather, 426g, super awesome hand feel
    - Black ebay cheapness, about 450g, screws on w/o adapter. great weight. OMAR this one's heading to you. enjoy!
    - Anarchy Motive custom Mammoth, this fucker took months to finish, 671g
    - my original, from speeddawg.com. only weighs 5oz, too light for me.

currently using the Anarchy Motive Goliath wrapped in leather in the previous pics, 733g, which he sent me to tide me over while waiting for the custom Mammoth above.

i like the Goliath so much i'm not even installing my custom job.
