Ive used brake cleaner to clean road paint off of vehicles before. Sure, something harsh like this will work IF youre VERY careful with it but I wouldnt go around recommending doing it unless you have a REALLY good grasp on what youre doing. The risk is pretty significant if you screw up. Harsh chemicals are tough on paint and clearcoat. Id really hate to be responsible for someone melting the paint off their truck because I told them to do something.

That's why I told them to be careful. I didn't just say "hey just spray some carb cleaner it will do the trick" as long you pay attention, go slow, and don't hold it on he paint long it will be fine. I'm only recommending it because he said go gone and clay didn't work

2 Worst outcomes - it doesn't come off, or he messes up and burns though the paint.. There's a solution for both of those image.jpg

People these days have this big ol phobia to gasoline... back in my day it made a great solvent. Do you have to be careful with it? well hell yah but wipe it on and wipe it off... wont hurt paint at all... it will eat most of the over the counter spray paints but good automotive paint such as our Tacos... wont hurt em all.

Mineral spirits if its tar. Warm the area with a hair dryer to soften it a bit.

I've had crap get on my vehicles before. But this stuff has beaten me. Ill definitely be careful trying these ideas. My wife probably will tell me to live with it before I can convince her on the benefits of a high clearance bumper.

Exactly. I remember growing up and used gasoline to clean a lot of things. Not big of a deal as long as you keep it away from flames or sparks. Also, a little dab of gasoline is not really dangerous. Think about all the gas that drips from gas pumps when people use them trying to top off their gas tanks.

I would try some rubbing alcohol you can buy at the local dollar store. It is safe on paint and helps remove goo and tar. My buddy has a decal & wrap shop and that is what they use when they remove a wrap & have glue left over.

if it is a petroleum product that is on the paint then alcohol wont touch it.

If on a decal or sticker or something that the adhesive used is alcohol based then of course a petroleum based product wont be any good on it.

Maybe this is a time to go to the professionals. Body shops will know exactly how agressive to go without destroying the paint.
