If you look at the entire chart, it's clear which 5100 strut is designed for which gen

 

24-239370 is listed for both the 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas.

24-263108 is listed only for 3rd gen

So, no, it's not clear to me

 

That means 24-23970 is the one designed for 2nd gen, but can also be used on 3rd gen.

24-263108 is an updated design for 3rd gen.

 

The 2nd gen ones have 3 adjustment rings, the 3rd gen specific ones have 5 rings, they both fit regardless.

 

I didn't even know that the 3rd gens had more adjustability. (And apparently that adjustability is not a word, at least according to browser spellcheck.)

 

But if I'm replacing coils for lift, then they should be set at 0 regardless?

That is the best option, yes.

Edit: All the numbers in that chart are according to strut set at 0.

@Beef Nachos do you plan on going biggerdpwn the road? I've got 4.88s but I'm on 35s my buddy has 4.88 on the 4runner with 33s and with all the armor and extra weight it drives nice. 3 of the 6 that went to Ouray have 4.88 and we didn't have to knock it out of D much. Also note I was towing the trailer we built with 35s also and it felt great. 75-80 MPH it was fine

 

What are your RPMs at when you are running 80MPH?

 

In prep for next GTG, remember Oct14 the DFW area will be overflowing with Orange Dbags and Mobilehoma idiots for the RedRiver shootout. So majority of places are gonna be packed that day

Probably when I get a job than can afford it! I'm not doing anything too crazy in the near future, but I would like to add some off road capabilities. The wife is daily driving this and I've got my dad's '94 Honda Accord MT. As soon as we can get her a more reliable vehicle (another 4R) and buy a house, I'm cutting this truck up all kinds of sideways.

I've never modded and don't know much about the mechanical world, so I'm soaking it up as I go and doing as I learn. If I don't get a lift in the next few months, my first project might be tackling a fuse block for more lights.

 

Adding more lights is a simple easy couple hour job even with relays. Not bad I can show you. What's the reason your originally wanting gears? What's the purpose of the truck going to be? Also where in dallas are you?

It's not that I do or don't want them, it's that I want the knowledge. Being able to make the most educated decisions matters to me. Since I'm wanting to do as much of the work on my own as possible, I'd like to have a good projection of the outcome based on previous information.

The truck will be mostly be used for overlanding/camping/light off roading to start. It won't end there, but I should probably learn a few things before I start ripping guts out and going straight for the big leagues

 

Basically, any of the counties in the major metropolitan areas of Texas have to meet emission standards for vehicles 24 model years or newer. Cars made before OBD2 (1995 and older) have to be smog tested. Up until this year, I had to worry about the Supra passing inspection. I either had to find someone to help me get a sticker or find a place with a 2 speed idle test as my car wouldn't pass the newer dyno/sniffer test. My car has high NOx levels because I run rich at low speeds. 2 speed test doesn't check for NOx. I also had to fake a bunch of emissions parts to make it look like everything was still there. Now it's 25 years old, so it's just a $7 safety inspection. I've heard even safety may go away soon, so not sure if I'd just have to pay registration only.

 

I voted October 14-15 coz I will be solo that weekend.
