Shopping for my 1st Tacoma, TRD SPORT hood scoop bother...

Hey guys! I'm new to the forum and Still deciding between Tacoma or Frontier.
I need a long bed and TRD if Tacoma. The problem is that the only TRD long bed made is the Sport and that hood scoop was distracting to me ands I think it blocked my vision some!
I would like your feedback on that!
Is it something that you get used to it, or not??
Is it true that the long bed is a more confortable ride, harder to turn and worst on mpg??
That r your thoughts on the new generation of Frontier? Did you ride one before buying Tacoma??

dont get the nissan. tacoma is the superior truck. just search around this forum for comparisons. also you can sell the hood on this site because lots of guys want them.

hood scoop doesn't bother me a bit. no vision issues. the long bed isn't difficult to maneuver and the turning radius is good. not sure about the ride compared to a short bed, but i'm sure it's not much different.

i considered a frontier, for a second, and then realized i liked the look of the tacoma much better. appearance does count for something.

 

Don't know if I would agree with the 'superior' part of your statement. The Frontier is just as good, and even better in some areas then the Tacoma.
Can't beat a fully boxed frame, solid box, solid tailgate, useful tie downs, rear disc brakes and an available factory sunroof!

But I rest my case, I do love my Tacoma much better. I just like the look and overall drivability of the truck, compared to the Frontier.

I work for Nissan and get harassed everyday about my tacoma lol

 

If you get a sport in silver, I will gladly trade hoods with you! Been needing a good excuse to head to Nashville anyways...

 

I have a longbed doublecab sport , and to tell you the truth the only time I really notice the hood scoop anymore is when I'm outside the truck .

I agree and would've really liked a better tailgate, better rail system and sunroof. But, alas, I think the Tacoma looks better. And I liked the ac outlet in the rear.

And when I say it looked better - I mean the hood scoop! I think the scoop pulls the body lines of the truck together. I have a Barcelona Red TRD Sport and have had sooooo many people comment on my truck. Complete strangers are telling me "nice truck". It's actually weird!

I've driven many new vehicles but have never had this many compliments on a stock truck.

 

Hood scoop blocks your vision? My wife drives my scooped double cab and she is 4'11" tall.

 

buy the sport and trade someone hoods. People trade + pay around 300 for one with a scoop

the hood scoop on my wrx doesn't bother me and that is huge! I don't see how you'd have any problem with it.

 

based on the features??? yes, there's always advantages and disadvantages between any two vehicles.

between overall quality and longevity - there is no comparison - the toyota is superior. my mechanic specializes in japanese cars, and he sees quite a bit of difference especially at about 100K miles and on. i've owned both types recently, and one of my best friends OWNS a Nissan dealership... we just sold our pathfinder as well...

i will say that i'd buy a nissan any day over any american vehicle however... it's all relative.

 

It blocked your vision? Are you real short? Like 3'8"?

 

Lol, the 'overall quality and longevity' of Toyota is something that could also be debated, but we'll leave that for another thread.
The current Toyota quality is not the same as it was years and years ago on their older vehicles.

OP, if the hood scoop really bugs you, you could easily sell it or trade somebody on this forum for a regular hood. It would sell/trade very fast.

I have the long bed TRD Sport. The hood scoop doesn't really bother me too much, except maybe when parallel parking a bit. If your short though it might be a big more of a distraction.
I had the rear spring TSB done on my rig (some trucks came with a 2 leaf pack and ride sufferred), and once that was done the ride smoothed out greatly. The turning radius is definitely a bit bigger than my F150 supercrew but with the back up camera (if equipped) it makes up for the shortcomings.
Gas mileage, around town has been in the 16's and recent trip over the mountains netted pretty close to 18 mpg. If there hadn't been rain, snow, slush, and high winds I think I probably would have been closer to 20mpg. Not bad for a 4x4 cruising 70-75 mph. Hope that helps. Ken

 

if you go with magnetic gray, ill be happy to swap hoods with you. im picking up my 2010 next week... and i have no problem driving from toronto down to nashville to swap hoods..

it would be a good road trip for me and the wife.

 

I have a DC TRD Sport. The hood scoop does not bother me at all. Ride is great. Turning radius good. I now have 4,200 miles on it and milage has averaged 20.8 MPG. My worst MPG - 19.8, Best has been 21.5

Wish I could get that gas mileage. Mine is close, but not quite in the 20s. Went down slightly after my lift and tires.

 

If it bothers you, sell it. There are tons of people on here who will pay to trade you for your scooped hood.

Oh dont believe all the hype on here, gonna be personal preference.
My dad has the Frontier and I like it, I dont love it but I like it, it's sharp, ride is smother than my 06 Taco. Feel like if I was to run over a dime in my truck I could tell ya if it was heads or tails but I do love my truck.

Hood scoop did take some getting use to but it was worth it for the look.
If the hood scoop is all thats holdin ya back dismiss that and join the group.

I would like to give you one warning though. I've had mine about a month now, washed that baby about 15 times already and waxed it 3. I'm worried I'm going to rub the "cool" off of it.
