On mine and on others that I have read, it seems to be the front gasket that holds every thing up. Apparently, nothing has improved in the supply chain since April!

My dealer offered to allow me to trade for a 2017 Tacoma. It would have cost me a few thousand dollars! Funny thing, I was almost ready to pull the trigger, when they called me to let me know that my Taco was finally done, 79 days after I took it in.

Emailed the COO yesterday. Taco has been out for over 5 weeks. Driving a crossover SUV after having a truck is boring as hell.

who say it never rains in southern California......todays it rained in Irvine....but before i go there, when i got my truck back from being told i had no issue, that torqued the bolts and washed it......when i got it i noticed a large puddle of water on the drivers side but dod not pay any attention,,,just thought it was from the feet of the guy that washed it.....i took picture.......same was the case on Tuesday of this week........i thought the car wash guys don't give a shit.....

So today, i went to the eye doctor and it rained while i was in his office......came out and opened the drivers door to a puddle of water dripping down from the left side of the dash.......called dealer and made appointment for Monday at 0730.....i must be cursed besides being bent over twice :crapstorm:

Just got the call from Regional Office... recall is done, truck is ready. 14 days. Haven’t talked to dealer yet so we’ll see what happens.

I think ALL of us are owned a serious explanation as to why it's taking so long to obtain the gasket and have the worked performed. My friend's truck has been sitting at the dealership over a month with no signs of progress. My issue is the howling/whinning differential on the 17 TRDOR 4x4

    1) Supply issue? Can they not obtain the gasket?

    2) Are the gaskets being diverted towards current production trucks and recalls being put on the back burner?

    3) I see this as fruad if they continue to produce Tacoma's with faulty differentials and sign customers up for financing/leasing contracts with a defective vehicle from the start.

    4) If the media did a segment and asked the hard questions I bet Toyota's attitude would change overnight....

    5) why are differentials failing and howling/ whinning at less than 1500 miles...

So far they're just covering up and trying to do damage control..

Tell me about it! With all the bad luck I have had these last few years, I tell my friends, all I can figure is, in a former life I must have killed a Hobo!

Welp, got it back tonight! 14 days. Squeaky wheel I suppose...

Paperwork said drained >2.0L, replaced gasket, nuts, seals and o-rings and a little brake fluid. I crawled under it and it's either oily, scrubbed all over or they Berryman'd the whole area; it's shiny black all around the carrier. I'll get a better look in the AM, but FWIW I saw no RTV. For all I know they just wiped it even more and called it fixed! (let's hope not).

Dix couldn't even give it a once over through the car wash.

That is a total lie, it was taking 3 months before the Hurricane ever hit, this recall has been out since April 27. Toyota is simply trying to hide costs buy ordering parts just barley over production run parts.

The total cost of the parts (not carrier) is 58.00. That is the gasket, new nuts, drive shaft seals etc. this is simply a BS game Toyota is playing. For the hell of it, I ordered these parts myself, yes real OEM parts and we will see how long it takes for a paying customer to get them.

Next week will be 7 weeks. At what point do you get a lawyer involved? Or is it even worth it?

Whois Lentz? I’ve talked to corporate Toyota as well as the customer relations person at the local dealer and told them how their customer service is 0!! I’m having to tell these people how to do their jobs.

It’s absolutely stupid. They are going to refund me the money when I buy the 45,000 mile maintenance extension but I want my freaking truck back!!

Jim_Lentz@toyota.com he’s the CEO. It prob doesn’t get to him but I got called the next day, then referred to a Customer First Admin that is able to get things done. Like I said, 14 days without my truck, recall work completed, truck back in my driveway.

He's actually the COO I believe. I emailed him and I got a call from Texas the very next day. Unfortunately I was busy all day yesterday during business hours and have to call back today.

New trucks are dropped off at the lots every week. They already have our money and they don't give a shit.

Shit!!! I'm on day 5 . Some dealers didn't offer the free loaner. The dealer I bought a previous Tacoma from gives loaners if they need to keep the truck the whole day. Its fricking day 5 .. it's in the air not being worked on. I guess I'll call the Toyota 800# again!!!

Whoa. A loaner is a part of the deal. Toyota pays for it, not the dealer. And you better tell them you’re a pool guy hauling acid and chlorine so you get a truck, unless you like Corollas! I had a Tundra.
