Yep! So, how low is TOO low? :) I seldom run until my low light comes on and when it does, I still have 3-4 gallons left. Am I in danger of frying my fuel pump?
Looks like contamination is number 1 though.

    Lol.

Contamination and overheating both have the same cause = running tanks too low of fuel.

    Have fun, Curt.

While we are on the subject of fuel levels..... anyone else have an intermittent problem of the fuel gauge slowing going to full after you’ve poured gas?

I never let my tank go below half but every once in a while when I fill up, I have to drive about 2 miles before it moves to F. Most of the time once I start the engine, it correctly reads F right away

Not I. Maybe the float hangs up a little or the contacts are a little dirty. :notsure:

I'm sure there is an "anti-slosh" module of some fashion integrated in the cluster preventing the gas gauge from dancing all over:goingcrazy:when turning, accelerating etc. Some times it takes a few minutes to recognize the fuel being added...IMO

Next time get out and kick the living shit out of the tank with your foot, see if it moves faster. A tow truck driver told me about this when stranded on the side of the road in my chevy z71, sure enough it shook things up enough the pump ran, and got me home. 3 days later I replaced the pump.

    What year was the truck?

My 98 would burn through a set of fuel pumps every 35k miles like clockwork.

Always fun to be stranded in traffic.

I have to agree. Lower fuel level means more density of contaminants. Buy clean fuel, but how do you know if it's clean?
Anyway I am having fun, thanks!
edit: How low is too low?

I'm not doubting anything anyone has said & I haven't been inside a Toyota fuel tank yet but some experience I've had the fuel pump sits inside a "splash pot" (large scale think Coke bottle in a bucket, bucket in a bathtub). The Coke bottle sucks fuel from the bathtub into the bucket & that's the fuel it runs off of so you don't get bogging while turning a corner if the tank is low. The fuel filter is in the bucket in some cases & once you drain the bucket that's when you're screwed. The low fuel light comes on once the bathtub is empty. Sound fair?

I think the low light comes on from the float level

Agreed. The float turns the light on once it reaches the bottom of the bathtub indicating what you have left is only the bucket.

Without :deadhorse: ... I guess we'll call it "personal preference"...I usually fill up around 1/4 tank not to let level to get too low to possibly cause issues because yes the pump sits in a well. Also when the Zombies come I need to be able to haul ass to the mountains without looking for an Exxon!:burnrubber:
    Again ....IMO
