What is this black box in my new 2010?

I just bought a 2010 DC, 4WD, TRD OR automatic. I noticed this box next to the hood opener mechanism.

What is this?

 

All I have is the stock keyless system. Don't know???

 

did you buy the truck used or new?

Follow the wires as far as you can and see what it goes to.

^ Agree.. Or some other aftermarket starter kill/alarm. They had one installed in my truck when I bought her used. I made them take that crap out. Hope they didn't charge you extra for it.. Might want to check your sales contract.

 

my dealer told me about it....its a toyota alarm that if you dont pay extra for when you buy the truck they put that cap on it (which makes it look like a black box) and you cant use it. i have the same thing. no point for it being there but not sure if i can take it out

I guess, seems, I did not get any alarm, but I will double check the contract. My remote has a Toyota logo an looks OEM.

 

yep... a buddy of mine owns dealerships... they often put these things in that you plug a key into... can't start without the key. if the person wants to pay for it, they pay extra - ifnot, they put a plug in it... you'd be amazed the markup on them...

 

I'd make them take it out and replace that cover, cause I don't want a screw hole in it, I hate dealers that do that.

 

You push it for on Star when your pedal sticks or u have some type of recall

That's weird! I purchase alarm from Toyota and it was small black thing in the middle between Dual 12V auxiliary power outlets. I think that is where they are. I am not really sure. I have to look in my truck again.

 

Nah, you push it when you get locked IN your vehicle.

 

Remember that scene in "The Fifth Element" where the ugly mercenaries got a bunch of fancy new guns but never asked what the little red button is for? LOL
