Installed Overhead Compass and Temperature Display along with outside temperature sensor and wiring; LED lights reverse backup; LED license plate lights; Added GTA Bluetooth Audio kit to stock radio for iphone audio; Spare tire steel braided air hose extension connection to rear bumper; Installed new headlights along with new bulbs PIAA H4 XTreme and for fog lights PIAA H10 XTreme bulbs. Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
Could also be that the "float indicator device" on the fuel pump is in the early stages of malfunctioning and over a period of time will continue to just get worse and will just not give you an accurate fuel gauge reading.

I've heard of this happening and basically the whole fuel pump needs to be replaced since the float is part of it.

Can't imagine someone sells just the float. Would be nice though.

I couldn't agree more but yes, I doubt that too.

That's why it's such a PITA to have to replace the entire fuel pump just to get the float to begin getting an accurate fuel gauge reading.

My gas guage hits E after 80 miles, so that's fun. I just go off of the trip odometer.

I guess, realistically though.. if you're going to the trouble of pulling a pump, you're not going to change a float with 50k miles on it and leave a pump with 100k.

So.. to the parts house we go.

pretty sure I get 100mpg when I hit the E, because it take me about 10 days of city driving before I need to fill up, and 3 of those i'm on E, and when I go to the pump I can only squeeze 18.5 gallons in.

Hmmm, this has been happening ever since I got the truck back in 2010, and it’s completely random.

I might look into this. When I met my wife her Chevy Malibu fuel gauge would read empty after a fill up & only after maybe 30ish miles start to register full. Long story short at the time it wasn't available separate but after a couple years it was for 1/10th of the price for a new pump unit with level sensor. Fast forward 5 years & we still have not needed to buy that whole unit due to a failed pump & my wife is one of those "I know my fuel gauge" people that will drive home from work with the light on.

Hmmmmm.....If you've learn to live with it like that since, then why ask about it now after all this time?

Still though, if your fuel gauge is showing inaccurate readings then more than likely the float device on the fuel pump is not working properly and or there is sediment that has accumulated at the bottom of the tank and is interfering with the floating device (possibly making it stick?).

Just curious if I was the only one experiencing it or if it was a common “enhancement”. It’ll happen once every few months for no rhyme or reason.

That story I told a few pages back about seeing my low fuel light come on and still being about 5 miles out on the freeway... well when I finally did make it to the station was the most I ever put in the tank which was 17.4 gallons... it sounds like I still had like 3 gallons left in the tank... ok, good info there... ;)

Another reason to never let your tank get too low is unexpected things may come up. During Hurricane Harvey, a lot of cities in Texas ( I’m talking about Dallas, Austin, San Antonio’s) had gas runs where many gas stations were out of fuel or the lines to get gas were upwards of 3 hours. It was totally unexpected as it was a man- made supply shortage in gas , not an actual gas shortage.and it literally happened overnight. Would have sucked to be running on fumes and having to desperately wait in line for gas like that.
