Yes there are those that have love for them, Yes it has its place in history, but that is what it is, a piece of history. I guess I view it from a different perspective.
I have no love for a rifle platform that has taken thousands and thousands of our fathers and brothers and cousins and uncles and a few moms and daughters also.

I don't own one, but I have shot one. My respect for them comes from the one I shot:
2007, I was deployed to Afghanistan. Our J2 dug up a Chinese-made AK from under a couple of feet of dirt. The rifle had been buried for YEARS and was completely exposed; no protection whatsoever.

They brought the AK back to me (as a Marine, I was the closest thing to an armorer that they had) to clean up and "see if it will fire." So I cleaned it up as best I could using a water hose and a couple of drops (gallon) of CLP, mind you I had never touched one before in my life, threw a brand new polymer magazine in it, charged it and continued to fire for hundreds of rounds without failure. It was crazy! Don't ask me what happened to it, but I'm pretty sure there is a retired Army Colonel out there with a Chinese AK mounted to his wall.

"Guns don't kill people, people kill people... unless it's a Commie gun. Commie guns are EVILLLLLLLL!"
But seriously, I understand where you're coming from. I feel the same way about certain symbolic traitorous monuments, be they cloth or stone.

I just like guns and want one of everything. AKs are awesome. ARs are awesome. I intend to shoot as many as I can. They all put grins on my face.

I will say this in closing and then it's the end of this discussion, yes it is a great design. The fact that there are AKs in America That have quite possibly killed dozens if not hundreds of Americans just makes me cringe,
