I had been eyeing the tweeters for a while now, like sitting in my Amazon cart close to buying them. So, when op posted this thread about the crutchfield deal and then a less expensive eBay link popped up I pulled the trigger on everything. Installed the tweeters yesterday and they were an awesome improvement. So much so that it amplified how bad the doors were. I swapped the front doors earlier and am super pleased with the sound for the money. Now it sounds weak in the back, so can't wait to finish the upgrade tomorrow.

This is what I was afraid of. Once I get the tweeters I’ll realize how bad the other ones are. Dang.

Did you use the same speakers as the OP? That's what I've been eyeing but someone else on the tweeter thread used the kicker 43ksc6904. would it be better being a 2 way?

I know we have discussed it but are the minor mods that have to be done for the door speakers hard? I suck at sound systems.

Just a quick note as I was test fitting the speakers in the mounts, the front don't need to be drilled. The screws go in at a slight angle which is what gives them bite in the plastic and while over torquing will definitely strip them, they have plenty of grip to be secure.

I started each at the furthest length of the screw and then slowly and evenly tightened each until flush and secure.

I did the Tweeters a little while back and so far did the Rear Doors with the sound deadener and the Speakers, sound is great but need to do the Front Speakers yet. I had to modify the Rear Speaker Mounts that Crutchfield sent me, had to use my air saw to cut all the inner mount tabs off so that the speaker would fit in it.

I fiddled around with mine for awhile and ended up drilling 2 holes, nice to see that you managed to get all 4 lined up, I just need to install mine in the truck now.

Those little tabs have a groove notched so you just take pliers and snap them off. You don't need to cut.

Tip, you have to break off the tabs on the rear brackets and called Crutchfield who confirmed. Spent too much time last night on why the speaker wasn't flush. Front brackets have no tabs to break off.

Are you referencing those two tabs on the outside of the brackets? I haven't test fit yet but assumed those need to come off too.

Do you install the sound deadening on top of the factory sound deadening material (the thick felt like stuff) or do you take that out? I'm assuming you would just cover it for but I'm also wondering how well it would adhere to it...?

Actually one door I did and then I realized that it wasn't the best idea cause when you put it on the felt it moves around cause the felt isn't directly on the metal. So pull the felt off then put it on that's my suggestion anyways. I think others would say the same.

Did you put the sound deadening on top of the white plastic lining on the doors?

Good to know - I've seen a few different pics of these and my sense is there isn't a ton of QC on the mounts themselves. have seen some variability in hole placement - glad you made it work w/o any drilling though! hopefully others will have the same experience!

Did you get it all installed yet, or just prepped for install today?

No, they are on the inside. The speaker will not fit flush in the mount unless the are broke off.
