I got a automatic 02 toyota tacoma prerunner 4x2 trd 3.4l v6. The truck is great only problem is that its a 4x2. The truck has soo much potential and I want to see it there. I just need to know how to come about this swap. What vehicle to take the part from, the cost of that part and or other parts that I would need to buy for the swap, and how to make sure everything is a hitch with no problems. This is my first truck so I have some sentimental value to it all ready and would really like to do the swap and not ruin the truck.

In the process right now for my '98 PreRunner. Try to avoid using ADD since you have to mess with vacuum and/or wiring. Manual Hubs is all mechanical. It's all basically bolt on.

Here's a list of stuff I've collected so far:

Expect to pay at least $1,500 in parts. You can use any A340F transmission from any Toyota vehicle as long as it is fly-by-wire and not drive-by-wire (no kickdown cable). You can even use your existing A340E if you swap the output shaft (which is really difficult, but doable - requires tearing down your entire transmission). Make sure your transfer case is J-Shift and not "4WD on the fly".

You can use an ADD front differential if you lock it permanently with a hose clamp, but I wanted to do it properly so I'm changing the jackshaft/axle tube to one that used manual hubs. You can use 3rd gen 4Runner (1996-2002ish) parts or some 1st gen (1995-2002) parts. 2003-2004 used Drive-by-Wire transmissions.
