If you want to do anything more than make it back to a road then spend the money and buy a +3.5 axle. Just the time it will save you from having to swap your repaired axle back in when you get home will be worth the money spent.

I wouldn't recommend it reguardless but if you do modify a stock axle I'd use a driveshaft shop to make sure it's straight. But realistically if you value your time it's just not worth it. That $275 saves you time, and give you the piece of mind knowing your temp axle isn't gonna fail destroying more parts while doing so

Also if you do sleeve it be sure to take the shock location into account as it gets room gets very tight at the coilover

That's not what I heard, I heard they are being too green and trying to preserve the land. That's the reason I was given for the cancelling of the Cinco de Baja in ABQ, and they are constantly trying to shut down the Chili Festival Las Cruces for the rock crawlers. The ABQ Baja course was pretty cool, we preran it once with one of the winners of KOH. I don't remember his name but his wife was also a very competitive racer and she had taken his Ultra4 for prerunning.

halfshafts twist very similar to a spring. You'd be surprised how much they can actually twist before they break. Cutting and welding embrittle's the material reducing its ability to twist, even with a sleeve... On top of that anything that spins needs to be balanced to work properly, you can do the math here. Will it work as a spare? maybe.... a lot of go fast beam guys whom extend their axles do something similar this and will drive on it, but make sure they only use it to get unstuck and go back to 2wd. But beams have some anti-science magic to them :boink: (I'd guess beam axles "work" because the length of the axle requires less twist than a shorter half-shaft...I still hear about them breaking though).

    I'd just do it right.

It's the same everywhere, the difference with NM I have noticed is they just hide it less. I know a few parts of LA are bad, but for the most part it's not in your face. In ABQ it's on every corner. Tweakers everywhere... One night I saw a lady aim her ass to the street, pull her pants down and spray shit into the street. It was interesting...

Dude I don't miss the crime. Besides my truck being stolen I saw a few armed robberies while cruising through town. But I was in ABQ. Gets better once you get away from the city.

I know some cops that were on the show back in the day haha. It was always funny we would watch cops at work and I would see them haha.

Ya after my truck was stolen I would hear a sound outside and run out with my pistol. I was on high alert there... The guys that stole my truck were not the kind to meet empty handed. They stole my truck, drove all over ABQ and committed like 6 crimes that they were able to link the truck to, then when they dumped it they left a bunch of weapons in the truck... Would not want to go outside to meet those dudes with a coke and a smile.

Poison for cheapskates like me :(

Except by the time I do it the cheap way I usually meet the same price, but I learn how do things better the next time - so there's that lol.

How about you just find another member and split the cost of a pair of axles... If it's for a set of TC 3.5" axles I may be down.

That's pretty cool... it's mind blowing how much a set of long travel axle shafts cost.

Just called Camburg to buy a single, and now that they have a pair back in stock they changed their mind and are only willing to sell as a pair. $550. Total Chaos' is $630 and Solo's is about the same. Those are the only options for my truck.

I have a set of stock length 1st gen Tundra axle shafts, so if any 1st gen Tacoma owners want them for their LT truck, contact me.

They won't fit anything besides a first-gen Tundra. Probably not a lot of interest for that here.

I believe he has a first gen Tundra, idk how many Tundra guys are on here. If is was a second gen Tacoma, I'm sure it would be super easy to find someone to split the cost with. (Myself included)

im talking racers from cali and whatnot, cinco de baja is coming back, were actually going to prerun a 50 mile loop just west of belen/los lunes tomorrow. race should be around mid October. chili challenge is badass but its BLM land so thats where the "green" comes in. everything out here is either reservation, BLM or private and no one wants to do anything with it. i see huge potential, just getting big names and whatnot out here isnt gonna happen.

Let me know how that goes, is it gonna be a Baja/KOH race like before? I'd like to go spectate, be cooler to take the Geiser out there but it needs a full prep from when I rolled it and we've got a few other projects to finish first.

disassembling OEM CVs? I tried the slide hammer pipe method and had no luck. ended up cutting the shaft, then pressing it out. it took 2500psi of force to shear the C-clip through the splines.
