Got my taco just over a month ago, 08/11 and had an alignment issue where it was pulling to the right. Went to the dealership and they fixed the alignment. Looking back the paper work, they stated that my 1 month old taco had 21,xxx miles on it and checked on toyota owners website and stated the same... In reality it had 1,400. I went back to the dealership and they said it doesn't matter what they report and shouldn't be concerned.

question is.. should I be concerned? and what should I do now...

I'd say have it corrected; if nothing else it may save you a future headache for any warranty work having the odometer readings be accurate. :notsure:

Dealership said they can not correct it.. That the next time I go to service they will report the mileage at that time.. Service records going to look a little weird that mileage was higher than lower.

It is something they will have to fix, but obviously not something you did. I work for a dealer and have seen where then automaker
will make them rectify it. Probably by reporting the correct mileage at next visit.

Well, if they can't correct it I'd say scribble the correct mileage on your copy of the service receipt, save that, and call it good.

They have record of your inservice date also and since it was only 1 month, no physical way of putting on 21,xxx miles so I think you should be good it if it should become an issue in the future. Just keep a copy of all your records.

Is there an option to go in and have them put in the system that this was incorrect and report the new mileage and state error on their part?

Haha... they can’t correct it? Right! I would make sure they make the correction. Just speak to a supervisor to get things settled.

They can enter new mileage reading at any time. Go there, have them pretend you're being serviced.

Waiting is lazy on their part. It's your truck history, be your own advocate.

this could become a problem at the DMV.... i once went to buy a jeep from a used dealer and they couldn't release the car because it had an inaccurate ODO reading and the DMV flagged it as modified/altered.

Was there a resolution to this? How does the DMV flag it and what is it based off? If DMV see mileage records from dealership from high to low, wouldn't they consider that tampering.

i ended up not getting the Jeep lol, i guess the previous owner had traded it in, they didn't check the car fax until it was listed. When the dealerships have service records those are apparently uploaded the the cars VIN which can be viewed by the DMV. From what they told me the dealership couldn't sell the car because the DMV wouldn't release the title to them from previous owner as the mileage on the car and service records showed tampering......or incorrect mileage. IE going from like 12K miles to 2K Miles then to 12 K the next year because a tech may have entered the wrong number in the service records. Last time i checked they sold the car to a parts yard.

my rec. would be demand them to correct it. It is correctable i believe for the dealership to fix / update the record to reflect a dealership error in reporting.

There may be a customer relations number you can call, they would probably open a claim, contact the dealer and you......

Ya, I would find yota customer relations, or Coorporate. I wouldn't want there to be a false computer record that done one might find. Also, I would want it to show that you had this issue at the current mileage in case of future issues.

Be sure that the dealership also reports the correction to carfax too. The erroneous mileage report to carfax can really mess you up when you try resell it.
