Where all did you put the sound deadening? Did you just cover the white plastic that is already there or did you remove it? Thank you! I will be going this route in the future

I covered what was there. I also put some inside the door, behind the speakers.

All done with install. At first I had it playing on radio and I was like...meh...this is about the same.

Then I put it on bluetooth and was like GREATGOOGLYMOOGLY. Bass just resonates everywhere, even at lower volumes (leaving my settings where they were previously) and highs are like ear piercingly high. I need to adjust treble as I had it too high but man, the sound just filled the whole cabin. At volume 40 my mirrors looked like a dance party.

Very very nice. 2 thumbs up. Highly recommend. A++++

This gets me all excited to get my speakers, from what most people are saying it's a BIG step up from the factory speaker sound.
I want to do the sound deadening but don't want to put out a bunch more $$, i just read about the Peel & Seal and it gets great reviews and is cheap at Lowe's .. anyone here use it?

Yeah, I suspect it's a HU thing. Even on the stock speakers I got to where I'd just stream XM over bluetooth from my phone b/c the quality was much better. Now I rarely listen to anything that isn't Bluetooth or USB. The highs and lows flatten out a lot with the radio/satellite. Glad folks are enjoying the new setups!

Now, to get my sound deadening installed ;)

Not sure who all is a fan of electronic music, but my cousin makes some pretty good stuff. One song in particular shows off the capabilities of these speakers pretty well. If you want to give it a try, pull up youtube on your phone while on bluetooth source and give this a listen.

Thanks again @bshammer0 hadn't even given this upgrade a second thought because I thought the only option was a 1k+ upgrade like OEM audio+

    Well done, sir.

Worth the effort - the system sounds great without the deadening, but there is an extra notch of clarity achieved. I only had time to do the fronts for now (and that's where the BASS is coming from anyhow...) and by putting the deadening material all behind the speakers above and below the breaker bar as well as ripping off the cloth stuff and jigsaw puzzling your way to covering the doors completely mades an instant and noticeable improvement. For me I think it's those more subtle bass tones that I hear with greater clarity.

kind of like the difference in a set of regular bose headphones - they sound fantastic, right? Then you put on a high-end pair of noise cancelling headphones.. up another notch. I was waiting for someone else to jump first b/c this is the last time I intend to pull apart the doors unless a speaker blows in the future or something ;)

It takes time (or I'm just OCD...). Took me about 45 minutes per door end-to-end

Did you put it on the plastic panel itself or only on the metal door panel?

Did you leave the cloth off or did you reinstall? Haha sorry, I'm just trying to get a good idea of what I'm gonna have to do

Glad everyone is happy with the setup, though I can't claim full credit. Learned a lot from other folks and once I installed, knew it was worth consolidating so others could reap the benefits.

Props to @IndyFastlane for the initial Subaru tweeter idea and to @mrproduxn for enlightening me to the fact that the HU paired really well with those Kicker CS speakers!

No cloth - threw it in the trash. The sound deadening won't adhere to that, it will adhere to the plastic that's already there though quite well. I also realized I lost my old roller in a move somewhere and opted for the high-tech alternative of a wooden spatula to roll it out tight.

Did another test just now and one thing I will say is that with the sound deadening I no longer need the bass as high as I did for the same results. At some point I'll do the rears. When it's cooler out :)
