Sneak Peek at the 2JZ (Lexus Inline 6 Motor) I am Cramming into my Ex-Girlfriend's Engine Bay

Man look how flat that oil pan is - wish the 3.4's had something like that. Got two of them balancing outside on busted tires, scrap wood, and I leave the cherry picker resting on one of them just in case some kid tries to use it as a jungle gym lol.

 

Hydroboost is done! Bolts right up with ease. The rod between that and the brake pedal was super easy. Thought I was going to have to cut and weld which I really didn't want to do, but all I ended up doing was cutting the end off the end and tapping some M10-1.25 threads on it which fit the tap perfectly and threading the Lexus end on. Super easy.

I'll let you guys know how this booster works out. I see a lot of guys on Pirate converting to hydroboost. So we'll find out soon. I have to point out though, I'm sure the master cylinder has to at least be 1 or 1-1/4 inches. The stock cylinder is 13/16." curiosity to see what kind of difference this makes. I think I'll probably look for a smaller master someday though. But can't speak too soon, don't know till we try.

Motor is out of Lexus. 4jz side by side! Haha. Going to clean it up and drop it in tomorrow.

The swap is coming along. Bad news- the output shaft of the GS300 is is BIGGER than the one from the JDM motor. Not sure what I need to do at that point. Was planning on using the JDM transmission, but it has a 10 pin connector where the USDM version has a 12 pin connector.

Remember how @COMAtized99 was pushing me to just try the Tacoma output flange for the heck of it at the very least and it somehow ended up fitting? Not the case anymore with this transmission unfortunately....

Will let you guys know later this week what I do with that. Still in the idea stage.

 

So I may have missed it, but you have two 2jz's? Is one of them a US version? Why not use that one? Seems like at the very least it would be easier getting parts for?

 

That's what I'm going with. There is a stinger at the end of the transmission. I went to use the JDM one so I don't have to cut that output shaft stinger off and sell the usdm transmission. Come to find out one plug is different. So back on with the usdm transmission and cutting the stinger off so I can put the Tacoma flange on. When I went to do that, the splined output shaft on the usdm transmission turned out to be bigger than the JDM one, so the flange won't fit to connect the drive shaft to.... It's cool because it's bigger and I would assume stronger, but kind of a bummer right now at the same time because I cannot connect the drive shaft without getting something done here.

 

Playing around with the position of everything. This this will be my final setup right here, I think. Just need a -10 90 degree fitting for the power steering pump intake.

Really wanted to put the power steering reservoir right where overflow is sitting at, but getting it as high as I could before it'd hit the hood would put the intake of the pump right at the middle of the reservoir, which I really don't think is ideal. I know cavitation occurs when using lines that are too small, but I THINK it might put extra stress slightly 'sucking' the fluid through a full siphon still. Just going to play it safe with this setup unless anyone has some input on that...

Despite the hang up with the transmission, everything is going really good. Pretty excited about this. Will stop by Drive Shaft Pro in Whittier tomorrow and ask them about seeing if they can cut each output flange and weld the two pieces together. It's a long shot, but don't know till I try!

 

As long as the actual u joints are the same size, I don't see why they won't. If one is bigger than the other, you will have vibrations.


I might be wrong, but I seem to remember that there are two flange sizes for our Tacoma's. Maybe I'm thinking about the diff flange though...

 

Is driveshaft pro a legit driveline shop? I'd like to see what can be done about my busted CV u joints and floppy flange on my backup driveshaft. Not all shops can tackle them though. The ones I know of are either on the west side or in OC / I.E.

I don't know at what point something is legit, but all they deal with there it looks like is drive shafts, rear ends, stuff like that. I'll throw your needs out there to them tomorrow and see what they say for ya!

 

Here is what I'm talking about. The flanges. The diameter of the splined area is where you can tell the 3 bolt Lexus one is a lot bigger than the 4 bolt Tacoma one.

It's a long shot, but I'll ask tomorrow if they can cut each one in half and weld the two I need together- Lexus splines with Tacoma 4 bolt.

I'd otherwise get the driveshaft adapted to the Lexus style, but it uses a center shaft for alignment. Unfortunately I cut that off thinking I wouldn't need it, just like the other one which worked fine. If I kept that shaft sticking out, the Tacoma driveshaft wouldn't go over it...

 

Hmmm true. "Legit" is kind of a loaded term. I've read about shops saying they can't do anything about the double cardon joints. Inland Empire Driveline would be a "legit" shop that does any and every driveshaft, however they're in Ontario. I did stop by there though and saw that they made the driveshaft for Stubby Bob:

Looks like almost everything should fit nicely - dunno about that beer on the intake, may need to cut a hole in the hood for that...

 

Thank you! Being absolutely honest, someone already did the hard work here- Lexus. Everything is all wired. Pins are connected. Everything. All I have to do is plug them in. The taco has room in places that are covered in paneling for the fuse boxes to go and whole harness. All I have to do is spend time making it fit nicely!
