Word. MT drives like a boss, as is expected. Could the throttle response be better? Sure, but that's a minor inconvenience at worst. You still have the tools necessary to drive it exactly how you want which is far from the case with the auto.

If I could drive this truck exactly how i wanted, I wouldn't have spent $765 on the tune. I learned to drive on a manual, I've owned several over 35+ years on the road and NEVER have I come across a throttle as wonky as this one. I can deal with vehicles that are underpowered, lacking in amenities, or just plain shitboxes.. as long as they are consistent. Hell, I had a '89 Sidekick soft top 5 speed that was just awful (hindsight). But you know what? When I pushed on the throttle, the engine would respond without delay.. the same every time. You could rev match very easily, every time. Consistently. Can't be done on my 16 Tacoma. Maybe your 17 has different code, or I'm more picky than you.. who knows.

Edit: Now that I've thought about it a little more, this may be the first M/T vehicle I've owned with a drive by wire throttle. Last M/T was a 05 Civic Coupe, not sure if it was drive by wire but there were no problems with it.

there's basically no way i could complain that much about this tune. he has something wrong for certain. he's not getting the same thing from this tune that we are.

I doubt either of those are true but whatever. Glad the tune has gotten you to a better place, assuming it has.

my ye olde 82 toyota with 22re and weber carbonator was the same... truck was a huge pile but I always knew what the gas pedal was going to do.... NOTHING!

much easier to :burnrubber:with this truck... still pending tune.

The throttle is a huge derp. But to me, what's worse, is the clutch, with the fluid accumulator crap they put on everything now.

OK let's understand each other. You have been stating all along that your truck works great after the tune, AND I BELIEVE YOU brother. I went from stock to 1.02, and my experience was also great, for the first 200-300km. Throttle was sharp, great response. After that period though, it started to exhibit delay again to the point where rev matches became hit and miss. Sometimes I'd stab the throttle and literally almost nothing would happen kinda like the OEM tune. You can read my earlier post if you like where I gave my initial review of 1.02.. all unicorns and rainbows basically. I don't understand what happened, but my truck changed and stayed that way. Also, we know that there are some trucks that exhibit "stutters" while others do not. Exact same tune file used. So it's possible that my truck may have quirks yours doesn't. I'm not alone BTW, although I may seem to be the most vocal. :anonymous:

I've since flashed my truck with 1.01b while we wait for a dedicated M/T tune. So far I like it, but the jury is out until more km go downrange. Despite my complaints, I'm confident Mat will get this sorted out.

I had a similar experience with 1.02b, great at first and seem to slowly degrade. MPG was sliding downward shifting wasn't the same power seemed down. So I went back to 1.01b and all is good again. Why? Learning function? Who knows beyond my pay grade. I Will put a few hundred miles on 1.01b to be sure it wasn't gas or some other reason.

Sounds like you have an A/T, so I can't comment there. Mat is working hard on it though, and it sounds like he's got a good handle on our ECM.

Same. M/T. Initially superb, but power at full throttle acceleration seems to be dropping off significantly. 93 OCT the whole time. PC on the same setting.

Positive it's not an issue with growing used to the changes? I gained 100whp on my sti and when I first started making those gains it was night and day but soon thereafter it started to lose its wow factor. This subtle of a power increase would quickly lose that feeling even though still there.

I hear what you're saying and agree with the premise. It just seemed to go flat over time. I first noticed it on the highway when I went 6-4 and got on it to get around some traffic. The truck struggled for a few seconds before starting to pick up. It didn't do that when I first flashed it with 1.02. But, it still had good cruising power in 6th at part throttle.. strange.
