Looking for gas to attach to my Pelreybilt bumper.. Rotopax or Jerry Cans?

I bought my high clearance with a mount for Rotopax. However, now that I'm looking at options I wanted to see what those of you with experience would choose.

I can either buy the jerry can holder from Pelfreybilt for $125, and bolt it to the Rotopax holes, or get double Rotopax and mount them with their locking option.

Pelfreybilt:

$125 for the mount
$60-80 per Jerry Can
10 Gallon Capacity

Rotopax:

$60 for double locking mount
~$85 per 3 gallon container
6 Gallon Capacity

Even though Rotopax are expensive, the jerry can option will actually cost more. I've read conflicting opinions about Rotopax.. so from those with experience, what would you choose?

I was in Harbor Freight the other day for something else but noticed that they had Jerry cans there for like $25 or something like that. I didnt look close but they must have been 5gal cans.

 

Ah, so cost wise both options might come out about even.

Curious to hear from rotopax owners?

 

Rotopax look awesome. Jerry cans are tried and true. I lean towards Jerry cans jeryevery time though cant go wrong with more fuel.

 

go with cans. thats what i did on my pb bumper. more fuel the better (and i also have a 34gal fuel tank lol)

 

Where did you get a 34gallon tank? I need that in my life.

Went camping with a guy, and he saw my metal jerry can strapped in the bed. Said he needs to pick one up soon because his rotopax gets really bloated when it's hot out. Here's the can I got.

Go with the cans and get one of these. Your back will thank you, so will the environment. You will not spill a drop of fuel.

I know for a fact these little units will pump over 100 gallons of gasoline on 2 "D" batteries.

Sweet, going this route. Can't see any reason to go with Rotopax when all I've read are bad experiences with them warping, leaking, mount lock breaking and mount bolt snapping.

 

I prefer to keep gas cans out of the elements as much as possible. I have a 37" Contico storage chest where I keep two jerry cans tucked nicely out of the sun, dust and inclement weather. The chest breathes well and is waterproof as far as water hitting it from above (rain and car washes).

 

Bought the Wavian's. Sounds like the Pelfreybilt carrier likely won't get here before my road trip the first week of October though

 

I have mine just strapped down on their side in my bed. No leaks. No fumes. It's great!

Don't waste money on rotopax. I've not enjoyed mine. Had to warranty 3/4 of the ones I bought new due to leaks. They all hold water/fuel now. But their fuel cans swell so damn bad they get stuck in their mounts. I don't honestly know how anyone can mount them in the sun.



This one would not come off. Swollen as fuck. And you can't vent them unless they are upright. So if you need that gas you're screwed.

Their Tacoma bed rail mount sucks ass too. Falls off all the damn time.

Not even a little bit. That thing has been strapped there for 4-5 wheeling trips, and lives there 100% of the time the past few months. No leaks. No fumes. I'm very glad I spent the extra money for a good jerry can.

 

Except they don't make a long bed tank.
