And that's why we use hammocks. No lumps, no bumps, no worries about uneven ground.

Our teardrop camper was a lifesaver back in July when we had to evac for the wildfire. While we didn't get everything out we should have, we got more than most because I was just cramming stuff into it. Load up, haul ass. Also works great for when we actually camp with it. Literally 10 minutes to set up and be seated with a beer in hand.

I never got into hammock backpacking. Don't think I could do it. I know those who do swear by it, but I'd be tossing and turning all night I'm sure. I love my NeoAir XLite too much.

A beer in hand is step 1 of setting up camp!

I have three hammocks but all that makes you is a burrito for a bear

While their is argument for both sides, I don't see myself have the downstroke for a rack system let alone a RTT. So I will be roughing it with my $250 tent and $100 sleeping bag. I'm Sure If I added it all up the money I've spent on Camping Equipment not only I would I be shocked but I wouldn't sell all of it. Let me tell you why. Because the is a reason that we camp, sleep on the ground. That goes back to when we were still living in caves. Not only that be I have memories in each of my tents and hammocks. that I wouldn't give up for 1000 Lift kits or racks systems or RTTs. I guess to me it fits into a Luxury Item box, that I don't need right now.

The only difference I see is the RTT crowd didn't get all butthurt and call out the ground campers lol.

In defense, I have 3 ground tents 3 hammocks, and have an RTT on order. I have yet to camp with one.

It doesn't matter what gear you use, as long as you use it.

Exactly. I personally don't have a use for an RTT. But I'm glad every day I see folks out camping. Whether in RTT, ground dweller, hammock, or cowboy camping. I'm thankful they're out, enjoying nature-however they deem fitting for themselves-it's not for me to understand.

Now... if you come over and ask me about my hammock (or teardrop) I'll talk your ears off for hours!

My kids love the RTT. Keep asking when we can go again. They call it a tree house. Bought mine during the CVT group buy so it wasn't that much more than the biggest Yakima Skyrise. I do agree, they are expensive and not without some issues - ie. the lack of ability to set up camp and then leave it if you want to take the truck anywhere once you are set up at camp. I probably won't take it into Needles as I think it's just easier to setup the ground tent in this area. I think it probably depends a lot on where you live/camp and what type of "camping" you do.

Yup, when I'm at Pismo a RTT is both a blessing and curse. It gets you up off the blowing sand that is so fine it comes through the ventilation screens, keeps you dry if the wake comes way up, and you don't have to rake the sand prior to placing a tent down.

But if you want to romp the dunes....

I bought an Eezi-Awn 1600, mainly for the airflow (South Texas) and I didn't spend $3K. OK, add the bed rack and I'm over. We camp a lot on the beach, with two dogs, so it cuts way back on the sand in the tent and its cooler being up off the sand. We've used ground tent and a double tent cot. Still have both, but will probably never use them again. To each his own...
