These posts is from a long ago by my 2009 Toyota Tacoma double cab short bed 4WD clean hey miles with 214K on it has developed a viberation when taking OFF from a start when turning left at slow speed like 5 to 10 MPH it Vibrates also feel it more on passenger side the seat and center council recently changed the universal joints all 3 of them and the center bearing one of the U joints was definitely bad so due to age I changed all 3 the vibration is less but not all gone few months ago dealer changed the leaf springs a Toyota recall so am not sure what else can be wrong any help apprticipated

 

stock height or lifted? Does it go away in 4WD? most likely the new leafs in the rear changed a few angles and you might want to add the OME carrier bearing drop. It's a cheap fix if it works for you. If your vibes go away in 4x4 it could be needle bearing failure in the front diff so you can go the ECGS route if that's the case.

 

Thanks doorsidedown for quick respond 2009 Taco 4WD 4door V6 Automatic stock truck all HWY miles well taken care of . In 4X4 still have Viberation this viberation is at take off after I go above 30 MPH it goes away however at high speed cruising I feel a drag in the car not sure driving me nuts my son drives the truck now days and he does not feel these nagging things I drove it one day and felt the viberation I read about the spacers somewheres else too it looks like goes under the center bearing bracket? I I'll try it.
What is ECGs rout? Also what needle bearing is in front differential? Am not familiar with this at all
OME carrier bearing drop? What is that?

If it's still there in 4X4 it's not the needle bearing so scratch that off the list.

Here's a link to the carrier bearing drop, similar to the fix the OP came up with. If it started after you had your leaf springs replaced, this might help fix it.

 

Doorsidedown I saw a video on YouTube after u posted to my Question it was from Some universityl Automotive curecculem and it explained in data with a Tundra transmission drive line and diffrential in display where if the Leaf springs are changed that will change the Angle of the The 3 piece Drive line And the angles need to be very close at the U JOINTS so the Plates under the center bearing may be the answer I will post the clip if I can find it Thanx Again for ur help

Ok just dropped The Tacoma 2009 off at Dayton Toyota explained the vibration and the Mechanics of what's on Video from the Webber States University the mechanic and I test drove it and he feels the Viberation I will post the result of this trip to the Dealer.later hope I have better news

 

All the explanation about the Correction need to be made to the drive line angle after the new Leaf springs install and the U Joiints went on Deaf ear with the mechanic S. He believes the Viberation has nothing to do with the Leaf spring swap. The Toyota Bulletin means nothing to them .
I will contact Toyota HQ and see where 9 go from there any advise in advance is appreciated. REZA

 

I had vibrations in my driveline after installing a levelling kit. I installed an aftermarket needle bearing and that worked great! East Coast bearing

 

Old thread revival. Any certain way to install. Like jack the rear wheels off the ground or anything like that.?

 

Old thread revival, revival - I fixed my take-off shudder without intending to. I think it was because I needed one thing, which then triggered another, etc. Anywho, first was the carrier bearing, then the body mounts (inverted passenger side position 2), then the tranny mount & boila!

 

The shudder from takeoff is caused by the universal joints. factors like, not being completely aligned with each other, and angle of the shafts to each other all play a factor. U-joints aren't constant velocity joints, and therefore give "speed pulses" as they spin. This is especially noticeable at low speeds. Sort of like a sign wave of increasing and decreasing speeds of the drive shaft, you will get four pulses per revolution for each joint. The pulses get worse the more you angle the u-joint. Higher lift= greater angle = more vibration.

I've been experiencing a vibration/pulsation type from 25 to 30 MPH under acceleration for the last 6 months aprox, Truck has 100.000 miles now, Never offroaded, never abused. I purchased the OLD MAN EMU carrier drop kit and its the same.
Here are a couple of pictures of the center bearing, how do you know if the bearing it's broken??

 

Was your pro lifted when you did this? I’m having some driveline vibrations but my 18 off road is stock. I wondered if a modest carrier bearing drop might help.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the tips on eliminating the trans shudder. I noticed a slight trans oil leak where the D/shaft enters the trans & replaced the seal (easy), then I put 3/8 inch spacers over my trans support bracket, drained the trans & refilled using a plasma temp sensor gun ($20 AT Harbor Freight) to assure the right fluid temp. Wala!! No more shudder.. Smooth as can be..
