Easy DIY: TRD Center Caps in Method Wheels

I recently purchased some Method wheels, but hated the look of the supplied center caps. After doing some digging, I found that there were no, direct replacement options, besides the machined ones on the Raptor forums. I love the look of the "machined" OEM TRD center caps, and decided to buy a set to see how far off the fitment was. The TRD caps are only slightly smaller than the ID of the method wheels, so the gap can easily be filled with weatherseal.

IMPORTANT: THIS MOD ONLY WORKS IF YOU ARE RUNNING SPACERS! Otherwise, the caps hit the CV Axle.



Materials needed:
- Method Wheels (duh)
- TRD Centercaps (purchased mine

PTR18-35092

here)
- Frost King EPDM D-Profile self stick weatherseal (home depot)



Instructions:
1) Make sure the center cap areas of the wheels are clean, this will determine how well the weatherseal sticks. My wheels were brand new so I only had to wipe it down with isopropyl.
2) Separate the two strands of weatherseal, and cut them to about 1' long each.
3) Remove the backing tape, and begin sticking the weather stripping to the wheels, making sure to leave about 2-3mm of space from the face of the wheel (if you want the center caps to be flush).
4) Continue sticking the weatherseal around the inside of the wheel until you reach the end where you started from. Trim the weatherseal flush.
5) Remove the snap ring from the TRD center caps and insert the cap into the wheel, making sure that the weatherseal is pinched between the center cap tabs and the wheel. Once the center cap is oriented and flush, insert the snap ring.


Thats all there is to it! I have had the caps on for two weeks, over 800 miles (pavement, highway, gravel roads), speeds up to 90 mph, as well as car washes/power washes and they have not fallen out or moved. I am curious how they will react with the cold this winter, however the weatherseal states that it does not change size with temperature.

I was thinking about doing this for a long time, but I was hesitant coz im to lazy to find out the diameter of the trd center cap, finally someone post it! thanks for the info!

 

I just recently purchased the trd center caps and I'm about to install them with the weather strip tomorrow morning. For some reason my NV's lug nut housing is not enclosed, it's open towards the center if that makes sense. We'll see how they turn out and I'll post some pics up.

Fortunately I don't actually need beadlocks, but if I did, it seems to be hard to find real ones anymore.

Anywho, the Methods look real... and that's all that matters anyways right?

This may be a dumb question but whatever. How big of a spacer are you running? I'm not really interested in running a 1-1.25" spacer. Would a standard 10mm wheel spacer from discount auto or pep boys suffice?

 

Not a dumb question at all! I am running spidertrax 1.5" spacers so a 10mm may be too small. That being said, I would also like to downsize my spacer size, I just havent had time to pop the wheel off and measure the difference.

 

Did this mod on my Tundra,a little differently.
I used RTV and bonded it to the inside of the bottom half of the ugly method cap.
