Have you painted your Crome Bumper?

I am debating on getting a paint shop to paint my rear bumper, and was told by the painter that it may not stick very well to the crome. I was wondering if any of you have painted your crome bumper? If so, how did it turn out? Did it chip off? Peal? Any defects at all? Thanks for any and all info.

blackhawke88 has done it a few times. I think I remember him posting the steps on how to somewhere

I bedlined mine with rattlecan bedliner.

Sanded the crap out of it with 300 grit to help the bedliner stick, but it still flaked in places where hit by rocks.

It ended up being crushed in an accident and replaced with a factory black bumper. The body shop owner commented on the painted chrome bumper and said that it is very difficult to get a chrome surface to take paint that will last.

I cant say for how the paint holds when the bumper is dented. I use 180 grit then 220 grit sand paper with a random orbital sander to scuff up the chrome. Other people use adhesive promoter, but I cant locate any near me.

 

Dont get mad at me guys but why do most people on here hate chrome? I think chrome makes a truck look like a truck. Just wondering not trying to make people mad I like the way it looks to I have just pondered over this for a while.

I took my bumper off and had it powder coated, they sand blast it then bake the finish on. Only cost me $75 and I know it is going to be black forever. They also did the inside of the bumper so I will not have to worry about rust.

 

I plan on painting mine as soon as the pollen goes away. I will let you know how it turns out. As long as you prep it properly it should turn out ok. I plan on sanding it A LOT, priming, then painting.

 

rustoleum truck bed liner, $7 and change at wally world, one can of primer, 1 scuff pad/scuffing tool, one and a half days time, all told. Easy peasy. I wrote it up too, I will look for it.

Im thinking about having this done also. sandblast, powdercoat then clear. should last a long time! im gonna get the gloss black pc. local powdercoater said $200 bucks for everything.

 

You will be happy if you take this route, I have a powdercoat guy out here who has a shop in his back yard and does awesome work dirt cheap. I did not have them clear mine because it is satin to match my Toyota toolbox. Overall you will spend a little but you will not be taking it off down the road doing it all over again.
