If you absolutely need a car while you're fixing your truck you can buy a used crown Vic at a police auction for under $1,000. I had a buddy who drove one while his car was being fixed.

Hell I've seen some cars on Craigslist that run for under 1,000

I guess I could ditch the AC/DC and start listening to "Hayseed Dixie" instead while I'm at it...

Don't know if you found one or not but I just went through this. The 2 ujoints in the center of your 2 piece drive shaft are located in the double cardon joint. after exhausting every option I found one manufacture that made the correct size for our trucks. The following is a excerpt from the thread I made when I was trying to find the Ujoints.

"Ok just to update this thread, I sourced the required u joints from Rockford. All other options were either out of business or the suppliers no longer satires them. The part you need for the double Cardon joint in the 2 piece driveshaft is part number K2540. I called Rockford directly and their customer service was very helpful and kind, I thanked them for still making this u joint and made sure they knew they were the only manufacturer I had found that had them still. Thank God for them, because they were my last straw. Hope this helps anyone in the future with my problem."

    Hope this helps!

Was it both joints and the center ball? How much $$?

The "Rockford 2540" is the only known replacement joint for the "at some point" after 99 DC joints with the outside clips and they know it. There is no clear point after 99 when Toyota switched.
There are currently 4 manufacturers of joints for the larger, earlier, inside clip style. They span the whole spectrum of quality/price. 2 from USA, one each from China and Japan. Toyota does not sell any 1st gen DC joints or either of the 2 sizes of center ball kits period.
The problem folks have finding the earlier style is that no manufacturer lists them as a 1st gen Tacoma application. You must first go by dimensions, then you find the applications, then the vendors.

I had these guys rebuild my driveshaft in my 2000 PreRunner. They also sell parts.
