Needed a jump start ! Only so much validation for a super great 4cyl needed, then it needs some life :) OP if you want we can reverse back to the original premise of the thread, and dispense with the fun. Your call

A turbo can take care of any regrets you have about the 4cyl :D:burnrubber:

I like chargers ...can't wait for a SC for V6.
I like the 4cyl on these trucks. Plenty of oomph IMO

My 2009 Suzuki Equator was 4 cylinder. Traded to Tacoma 6 cylinder. The 4 in the 2009 got much better gas mileage than the Suzuki 6 cylinder. It cost about $3500 less but traded in about $2000 less than a 6 cylinder. The Tacoma 6 gets about the same mileage as the 4 so I decided I wanted the extra power for a couple grand more this time around.

This is the only 4cyl I've owned, but it handled everything...farm, hunting, playing and long trips!

If you need horsepower/torque, by the 3.4, 4.0, or 3.5. You'll never find a better engine than Toyota makes! The fords/chevys I've owned sounded like they were going to explode at 3,000+ rpms.

no regerts! Well for engine choice. Only regret I have is not waiting for the dealership I went through to find me a 5spd. They gave me an automatic for less than the price of a 5spd so I was sold on the deal. When I purchased it in 2015 the third gen manuals were basically nonexistent. From what I hear they still are. If you find one snatch it up but the auto will suffice as it hasn't skipped a beat on me in over 24000 miles.

Ford Chevy and Dodge all make real trucks, I do not personally consider compact trucks as real trucks. I like compact pick ups, but If your truck does not have an exhaust brake, what do you have?

I think Toyota builds a better product, than the big three, but I've never driven a vehicle and thought this is a fantastic product.

Even school buses are getting away from manuals. Our school district only has a few manuals left in service. Everything else is automatics.

I like my 4 banger. It does what I need it to. If you need it to tow or want more power then go V6.
The 4 will scoot when you need it to.

If your truck doesn't have an exhaust brake, you probably didn't buy semi.

I have both as of 2 weeks ago. I was surprised at the amount of power the 4cyl has. It's definitely not the 3.5 V6 but feels like no slouch compared to the old 3.4 V6 in the first gens

    Nope.

I still have my 94 22RE, so I knew what to expect. With that said, the power of this truck surprises me every day, especially considering how much bigger it is relative to my other truck.

I just got done hauling 2 cord of seasoned firewood splits over 9 trips. Thing still pulls hard, and I was likely over payload capacity.

There is a 1 mile long grade (8%) on the route home, and with a full load it accelerates in 3rd no problem.

I'd buy another one of my lovely lady could bring herself to drive a pickup.

Well I do not consider Ford/Chevy/Dodge as real trucks. If your truck don't have twin V16 Diesel engines and a 12,000,000 lb payload capacity then what do you have? THIS is a real truck:
    IMG_0463.jpg
Notice the puny Ferd in the foreground for comparison. Pathetic.
