Will do. Going to go with 67" wms with ifs hubs. Seems to be a common width on the 1st gen tacomas. Rear will be around 64" which others says works well with that front width.

I may have said but my front is 62" WMS, and the new wheels have an inch less back spacing giving me 64" overall. The wheels do stick out a bit more than I'd like but it is what it is.
The rear is OEM width which I believe is 60" Again, the wheels make is 62" with the difference in back spacing.
    Looks and drives awesome.

My current axles are probably pretty close that. (minitruck front, ifs hubs and I think 1.5" spacers=?? I forget what the hubs give in width. Rear is the stock Tacoma. With 4.5 bs wheels.)

Just looking for wider and more stable. Will help it feel less tippy, give me more steering and stop rubbing the leafs and steering box and hopefully the fire wall and help keep the body off the rocks a little more. Hardly ever drive the truck on the street anymore except to go to trails and no laws about tire stick out here so not to worried about any of that.

    Cool.
I too am not worried of the tires sticking out, just don't care for the look. As for stability, I'm good in that my truck is low, 20.5" frame height on 33's. No sway bars either and drives great on the road.

I do have crap slung along the body of the truck when it rains. Looked into aftermarket flares but nobody makes them for a step side bed. I have removed the OEM mud flaps due to them not being wide enough to do anything. The truck looks better without them IMO.

Bummer that you are having a hard time getting answers...There's a reason TG has done so well in the Toyota market.

I think you are on with your width...I'm 65" wms and 37's just kiss the steering box and just rub the leafs too. 67" would be perfect.

I just finished my first trip on the FZJ80 axle and really dig the extra width it gave me over the stock Tacoma axle. I think a combination of the width and extra weight made it feel really planted

If the tg housing was wider I would use that housing but it's just not wide enough for my wants.

Goal would be to get a matching rear housing with shafts from some stock length shafts from a t100/tundra or even 2nd gen tacoma. Anything close to 65" I think so the front isn't super wide and rear so narrow. But that won't be for a while...

I've been casually browsing new front housing options and TG is definitely too narrow if you are looking to make the jump.

The FZJ80 rear would tick a lot of boxes for you on the rear axle if you ever did decide to swap it out too. Cheap, strong, 63" WMS, super easy to swap with a Ford 8.8 swap kit from Barnes. Built Tacoma third members get big money used so you can build a 9.5" for a pretty similar price to boot.

I'm contemplating (years down the road) having a housing fabbed with a 9.5" center and either Dana 60 outers or FZJ80 outers. I like the idea of having the same thirds front and rear in addition to a tighter turning axle.

Just to stir the pot: I wish I would have went with some sort of an open knuckle front axle, the turning radius absolutely blows on this closed knuckle stuff even without running steering stops and mashing the knuckle wipers every time I turn. This thing turned sharper IFS.

I used to say the same thing but it doesn't bother me any more. I just had to learn how to drive a long wheel base with no steering cause I have less than you. But trails are also different out here. The Rubicon I struggle with a little just cause it's tight sometimes and I have to make multiple point turns.

Ruffstuff sent me the measurements for axle tube lengths so will measure it this week to make sure it'll fit.

My dream axle was a ruff stuff housing with D60 outers and Ford 9" differential. But after running the numbers to build one with everything I wanted I decided to keep it a dream instead:eek:

Historic post. Been waiting for you to say it LOL

You guys are crazy haha. Want the turning radius, the width, the strength, the open knuckles, etc., but bark each time somebody mentions wontons :D

I agree mr. poopy butthole. I lost a little turning angle, and my WB growing a few inches didn't help either. But I'm getting used to the new normal. It's not as bad as I feared it would be.

    turning radius, what's that?

you get used to it and learn how to change your lines. backing into parking spaces helps btw for the street

I just pivot around the body like I have been from IFS. It annoys me most in parking lots because I can't ram into and pivot off anything like I can wheeling.....

.....well I could but the other motorists would be pissed.

@1999RegCab : I used to have Dana axled Jeep's I always knew the benefits, so it's not a ground breaking revilation. Trust me you didn't wear me down....:luvya:

FYI wonton was a term coined by boogerwelds on pirate 4x4 for a Toyota "one ton axle" he built way before they were cool and had the support they do now: 9.5" center and 80 outers.

Exactly how I do it lol. Jam the slider on a rock and let it walk it around. Or get on a climb drop it in 2 low and let the rear walk itself over.

I know you are a former Jeep guy. Just giving you crap :D

As I told you before, I get the "staying all toyota" if you can really build the axles very cheap like you did. Going the full custom route is a whole different argument.
