Buyobuyo's Build Thread

After nearly a decade of ownership, I'm finally starting to do some serious mods to my truck, so I thought I would start a build thread. Also, my signature is turning into a novel, so this will simplify things.

I'm generally not one to take a bunch of pictures while I'm working on my truck because I'm trying to get what I'm working on done, so perhaps having a build thread will motivate me to take more pictures.

Yeah. I'm looking forward to it. I just need to finish buying parts and start talking to shops about the install/welding work. I've got a vacation coming up at the end of October and Christmas shopping to do, so I'm trying to take it easy on purchases for the rest of the year.

 

It's about damn time.

Nothing too exciting has been going on with the build recently. I'm still acquiring parts for the LT and other miscellaneous deals that I find. Recently, I've picked up a set of Locked Off-road 2.0x2" hydro bumps, an used @Shmellmopwho CB mount, and I just got in on a group buy.

I cleaned up and repainted the CB mount this past weekend, and tried to install it. Unfortunately, my shell interferes with it, so I've got to decide what I'm going to do there. I could a) mod the mount, b) mod the shell, or c) sell the shell for either another shell or a rack. I'm leaning toward option c for reasons that will be disclosed in a couple of month.

I also just got back from aiming my fog lights and ditch lights. Well... more or less. I need to shim up the driver side light like I did on the passenger side because it is hitting the bottom of the opening in the bumper, so it won't go down far enough. I didn't measure, but it's about 4 inches above level right now at 25 feet. Before I aimed them, they were pointing above my headlight cutoffs. I didn't grab any pictures.

I went out yesterday and drove around Green Ridge State Forest in far northern MD with a few other members, and I've decided that post #2 is going to be for trip photos.

 

Taking advantage of some group buys and pre-Black Friday sales. I got in on a gb for a compressor mount that replaces one of the bed storage boxes, and I just ordered a Viair OBA setup, with 450C compressor and 2.5 gallon tank, from 4 Wheel Parts for a great price. I also picked up a couple of items to add to my recovery/off-road gear. First is a tire deflator, and second is Smittybilt's knockoff Factor55 Prolink. I figure that it's worth trying for 1/3 the price of the Prolink.

I also ordered a couple more parts to move my suspension build along. I ordered the rear frame box plates and rear shock relocate towers. The only thing left to buy to be able to install the rear now are brake lines, wheel spacers, and limit straps and mounting hardware. I'd like the rear disc conversion before I install but it isn't needed to get the rear installed.

 

I ordered a set of Rigid D-SS covers, for my Cali Raised pods, with my 4 Wheel Parts order mentioned in the last post. They didn't initially fit because there are 4 raised areas that kept the covers from pushing on far enough to snap on. Today, I pulled out the Dremel and ground down the raised spots, and they fit great now. They hold on tight to the point that I need to use a screwdriver to pop them off the lights.

I also took advantage of the nice weather and vacuumed out the interior of both the truck and the car.


Here you can see where I ground down the raised areas. Not the prettiest, but it's inside the cover against the light, so it can't be seen.
