I've been reading up on the frame replacement being conducted and I thought it wasn't applicable to 2013 model year. However, I just heard of a guy at work who has a 2013 Taco (like mine) and is having a frame replacement done on it, though I don't know the details yet. Suddenly I'm a bit concerned because I've been getting letters and phone calls from the dealership asking about buying back my Tacoma because it's a "highly sought after truck." I can't help but think that they want to buy it back before the frame becomes a problem.

Can anyone shed any light on this? I would be particularly interested in hearing from those who own a 2013 Taco and have spoken to their dealerships about frame replacements, and whether or not it is actually an issue.

Which ocean do you live in to have a 4 year old frame rusting out already?

He is Canadian, so that'd explain a rusted frame already.

They are supposed to be OK. But then again Toyota said in 2003, 2005, 2008, 2010 that the problem was identified and solved.

Same here. Take my truck on the beach frequently, live a few miles from the ocean, frame looks great.

    I don't believe your co-worker.

I have a 2013 showing some rust. But 2013 arent covered under the frame tort claim yet.

Unless he had an individual problem. But hes not covered under the mass tort.

My 2012 is still looking okay after two Michigan winters and three Nebraska winters. I'm hoping it lasts longer than the old frames, but who knows.

I agree, I'm skeptical, but wouldn't he potentially be covered by the original factory 5 year/unlimited mile corrosion warranty? I know it has a salt-use (e.g. "environmental conditions") lawyer clause that you have to wash it "immediately" but if he has a 100% stock truck, no sliders or mods, and had a frame perforation I'd think Toyota would have a difficult time denying a claim with the lawsuit pending on older trucks specifically for failing frames in winter states that use salt.

Just saying that it seems like it's not an completely impossible situation. Particularly since Toyota probably would want to keep any cases of a 2011+ trucks with rusty frames under the radar and might be motivated to repair them quickly.

He could certainly have the frame replaced because of rust.

What I'm saying is that it wouldn't be part of the mass tort currently going on (the frame settlement). He doesn't qualify under the rules because that tort doesnt cover model year 2013.

He would have to have it replaced by an individual claim (ie as you said under warranty).

The OP was essentially asking if there is an open claim process for the 2013 model year for frame rust. The answer to that is no.

His coworker would have to be a special case.

I still dont get it. OP started a thread and he has zero details regarding his so-called "coworker" issues. Does he actually have a co worker with issues or is he just concerned with his truck ?
