That picture was taken before I took delivery of my 2016. If that steel bearing support retainer was not there I would not have taken delivery of the truck.

I went down that road with the RA60f in my FJ. The transmission issue on it is the only reason it is not still in my driveway. 44k miles, 3 transmissions in 15 months. Same exact failure on both of the broken ones. Had the third installed under warranty and sold the truck.

Took the Albin Rhino to Sedona this weekend. Need to get a compressor to deflate and inflate the tires haha

    I've been doing the same.

Did you see the heavy flywheel they offer?

I did! Not sure I'd really want to go any heavier though I feel the stock one is a pretty fair balance, other than being able to control takeoff significantly easier are there any benefits to a heavier flywheel? I do a lot more high speed offroading like bombing fire roads and dune running and stuff, thats where the fun is for me :burnrubber:

Heavy flywheels basically assist in the bottom end of the rpm range, low speed maneuvering and trailer backing. Gives you back some of the torque these engines lack.

Edit: the engine gains no actual power with the heavy flywheel it just increases its kinetic energy

In short an object in motion tends to stay in motion. The heavier it is the more energy it stores while in motion.

Does anyone know if it is bad to use the clutch to bring the RPMs down faster so you can shift to the next gear. For Example, I'll be at 3000rpms in 5th gear. I want to shift to 6th which is about 2500rpms but Rev hang will keep the RPMs up and I'll forget to let them drop and I end slipping the clutch. Am I overthinking this?

Greased my clutch pedal pivot this weekend. What a giant pain in the ass. Though I was just going to pull a bolt out, grease a bushing, and slide the bolt back in.

Instead, I find a stiff coil spring to deal with, and an extremely shitty bracket design where two separate pieces come together at the pivot and they are flimsy enough to move causing hole misalignment. I did expect the tight quarters, but the aforementioned issues really complicated the whole deal. Also, be careful of the sheet metal brackets, the edges are razor sharp.

I found grease on most every contact EXCEPT the pivot. Just two nearly dry thin bushings. Packed it full of synthetic caliper grease and all is well now.

Yes, I think you are over-thinking this a bit. I suspect you are new to Manuals. I've been driving nothing but for well over 50 years and never give this issue much thought. My Taco (a 2016) has very little Rev-Hang. My 2010 Camry (Yes it has a manual) has a ton of it. This is something that you get used to and it will become (Pardon the pun) automatic. Your two feet will learn how to deal with this to the point that you will be able to drive that manual so smoothly that your passengers will think its an automatic. - Hand in there :) - Clay

This is my first vehicle that I’ve owned in manual and my girlfriend made that comment a few months back. Made me feel like a million bucks. I grew up driving my grandpas 1995 F250 and that one has a clutch that feels like a hundred pounds.

Over thinking it. This happens to me on occasion and although it bothers me I do not worry about hurting the truck.

Thank you sir, you are correct. This is my first manual transmission vehicle and although I have driven manuals before I find that this truck must driven and shifted slower and more deliberately. Thank you for you words of advice.

Yes. Just drive the truck. You'll get better over time in regard to what feels right and what doesn't.

I'm gunning to have my entire assembly replaced next visit to the dealer for my 20k Toyota care. that assembly is the biggest piece of junk on the truck... i cannot understand how they get away with that.

Had that done on my 2015. Felt GREAT at first, then started squeaking 6 months later.

I'll take it. there are no better options. if there was any decent aftermarket solution I'd buy it. perfection not required.

I would specifically ask them to pack the pivot full of plastic friendly grease (brake caliper or perhaps silicone suspension bushing grease). If they just pull it out of the packaging and plop it in as dry as it was from factory, its gonna squeak again I bet.

    thanks.

i just did another Toyota care change so I'm not due for the dealer for a while, but still I'm kinda regretting i put any lithium on there. it groans a bit now, but I'm afraid I'll get turned away from inability to duplicate. maybe the grease will wear off some by then.

just wishing i had enough time to actually source some improved hardware for this.

Jack up the rear axel and turn the wheels by hand, tighten until the brakes drag then loosen it a bit.
