Figured of start documenting my slow fall to bankruptcy through my 2017 Tacoma.

I came from having a 2007 6.7 Cummins 2500. After three transmissions (two built) I decided the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. I didn't tow anymore and building an overland Ram was going to be stupid expensive. So I sold it and picked up a used 2017 DCSB TRD OR 6 speed manual. Very low miles, tech package, came from a former coworker. My plan is to do pretty much what everyone else is doing and build an overly capable overland truck.

    So far modifications include:

-OME lift, 90000 shocks/888 coils, Dakar leafs, etc. (previous owner installed)

-KMC XD 128 17x9 (previous owner bought these. I hate them but I removed the center caps and hate them slightly less)

    -BFG K02's, 275/75/17

    -weathertech mats

Next order of bizness was to sell the annoying, cheap Predator steps. While I was at it I also sold the oem tonneau cover.

I went ahead and ordered some All Pro sliders. (I figure if I want to do any serious off-roading that's a pretty important thing to have.) I have a bunch of POR-15 I plan on coating em with.

I also ordered a Softtopper for the bed. My plan is to do something like this:

When I get back from a tad trip I plan on welding together a bed rack for it. There's tons of cool options out there but I have a concept in my head I'd rather build out.

I am not a fan of the shiny grille but I'd rather drop the coin on a new grille after I've gotten the more crucial stuff bought. So instead I pretended to be me circa fast and furious poor import owner days and plasti-dipped the current one black
    [IMG]
Came out as good as you can expect for spray paint. (I'll be honest I wasn't as thrilled about it as 19 year old me woulda been.) While I was at it I debadged it too.

    So for the near future:

-DIY Bed Cage, with all the recovery and tool accoutrements, built to fit over a soft topper

-King 2.5 Mid travel suspension with Total Chaos UCA's

    -Rear diff breather relocation

    -Snorkel of some sort

    -DIY Skid paneling

-Ditch lights, bed lighting (Cali Raised/Gecko Leds maybe?)

Down the road I'll tackle front and rear bumpers, different wheels, cab mount chop, HF comms, and more for full financial destruction. Won't do a RTT just as I like setting up camp and having the ability to leave and not have to pack it all up.

What are you planning for sleeping arrangements? I have a DCSB, curious on what to do, that inexpensive, but better than my ground tent I have to setup/take down.

I mean I can always sleep in the truck...

I like my ground tents. I have a Kifaru Tipi with a wood burning stove. I've considered building a drawer system in the bed that I could sleep on too, but I realize its pretty short too.

Only photo so far I can find of something similar to what I want!

Also, I ordered some of the Cali-Raised side projecting pods/mounts/harness etc. I'm curious to see if they'll last but I'm not holding my breath. My other big hobby is tactical/competitive shooting and over the years I've become a "buy once, cry once" type with anything in that realm. So I'm tempering my expectations but maybe they'll work out for my use. Who knows.

Only real issue I had was the transmission and even that wasn't really the trucks fault. I'll just say I would NEVER recommend Revmax Transmissions to anyone who needs a built dodge transmission.

Softtopper came in. If my buddy hadn't have stopped by I'd still be trying to stretch the fucker tight. Otherwise it's a super simple install.

Lights should be coming in tomorrow. Like I've said I'm not holding my breath on them, I'll be ordering some rigid bars here soon.

I'll also be fabbing up a bed cage in a month or two. Playing around with modeling it up in solidworks, haven't finished a design yet. AllPro sliders won't even ship till the end of October unfortunately :(

Here's the real reason for my current bankruptcy:
