No regrets here. I have the 5 speed transmission. I have to be careful on the freeway because it always wants to go 80 mph.

It has its days... I have had two with the 2.7 but wish I would have gotten a V6. Going back and forth to college every day it fine. Running fire calls with mine and getting passed by my lieutenant in his V6 is heartbreaking.

A twelve million pound payload capacity is cool and all, and damn it's got quite the real estate for mounting light bars, but it's still half the truck of the Ferd Fteenthousand!

I hate my 2012 4banger. But live in NH, lots of hills. I drive down to Florida, its great...up here on the hilly back-roads its in 2nd... a lot. 4th is useless. Only time I ever got 20 mpg was when I went South. At 5,000 rpm, you can watch the gas guage move.

That said...I got 165,000 miles of running the snot out of it, and besides a few wierd electrical problems related to a lightning strike she runs like a top. Any of my old Fords would've been Found On Road Dead twice over by now.

Never been up in 5k country, if 4k won't let me up shift then I just stay put. I'd certainly prefer a slightly lower rear axle ratio since I also live where there are steep hills. If there was one thing in the stock set up I would change, that would be it.

My 4x Ranger went 300k and 16 years before it finally lost a cylinder and rear diff. As they say, ymmv.

i have the v6 and i feel like the truck is under powered. i never test rode a 4 cylinder one but i would think the truck is too much for that engine. but what do i know :D. i guess it's working well for all of you.
i got the v6 because fuel economy was the same/better than 4 cyl.

Love my 2.7 5 speed! Like its been mentioned before though, I just wish it was geared a bit shorter. The 5 speed gets 3.90 gears, I'd say 4.30 or even 4.88 would be better. The engine likes to pull above 3k rpm but the gearing keeps you away from there...

I have a 2017 SR5 4x4 2.7l AT, I have to say It's perfect for me, but it's a second vehicle and I don't tow anything. This truck cruises so nicely on the highway at 70 Mph. To get it moving in town and to keep up with NJ traffic, you really have to push down into the gas pedal. I mainly use it for Home depot/lumber yard runs, kayaking and biking. If it was my only vehicle and/or if I was towing, I would go for the 6 cylinder.

Curious as to why you went from the V6 to the I4?

I liked my 3.4 better than all versions of the 2.7.

I have zero issues with the 2.7, hauls and tows everything I've asked it to. My issues are with the transmission and other parts of the truck. Highway I have no issues unless there is a strong headwind. If I lived around hills I would not own this truck, but on flat ground it's great.

I got the 2.7 because of the legendary reliability and when test driving I felt it was perfectly fine for 95% of the driving I do. Average about 22-24mpg on the highway which is what my 2014 Silverado averaged with a V8, bought it for the size and "quality" not the MPG.

Mostly it was about saving money. I decided the SR 4x4 was all the truck I needed and in making the trade I saved $120 month and over $5k over the remainder of the loan.

To each their own, I've owned many 3.4s and this is my first 2.7. Pretty pleased honestly
