Exactly. If they fix this im screwed. Nothing worse than paying for something you dont want. This will be an easy 15k loss even if i traded it in. This thing will have alot of problems down the road

If it's certified and fixed, I don't think he has the choice to accept it back. He can sell it after but you are correct in the value he loses.

Awesome. If it's not totalled(I'm rooting for you that it is), then do the price poll. I'm sure our collective voting will carry some weight with your insurance adjuster though...

As others have said, I’m glad that everyone was okay, looks like your truck was so scared it wet itself . Hope it all works out okay with getting a replacement. Seems that these trucks are pretty darn safe!

The difference in perpetual' struck was the big steel front bumper took the energy and transferred it to the frame. Although it didn't look as bad as his crash, it was worse because the frame too the impact and tweaked it.
Good luck OP. I wouldn't want it back after that either

The insurance adjuster works for the insurance company and will try to save the company from a total loss if at all possible. They have a formula to which they go by and he ain't jeopardizing his career for any owner. I've been in that situation and thought I totaled my truck with a head on collision to a pole with frame damage. They fixed it and I kept my truck and it never gave me any problems after. when I picked it up from the body Shop I was surprised how good it looked and drove. Times have changed since then so good luck, hope it's totaled. $.02

They can put a frame under it and all the other damage and still not be close.
What area re you in? And where is the truck now?

Between surviving and having a good outlook you've got the two most important things covered, the rest is sand. Just glad you're ok and not another statistic.

If he doesn’t total it, trade it on a new one at a giant dealer. Big dealers often don’t care about the history as far as “value” goes. Pretty cut and dry to them. It’s just one more vehicle in a long list of daily transactions. Especially if they’re motivated to make a new vehicle sale. There’s inherent value to them in that alone. They’ll take your truck, send it to auction, they get what they want and you get what you want. You’ll take a hit, but imo your gain in “value” will offset that loss, particularly since your truck is new and you’ll be driving it for many years.

Most insurance companies use third party appraisers. It removes any potential bias, discrimination, or etc. from the picture for the claimant to fight the claim in arbitration or court. The adjuster only handles the claim, and is the face & voice for the insurance company.

As far as reimbursement for a total, the adjuster will use the current year's NADA book for valuation, plus any additional riders you may have added to the policy for aftermarket items.

Glad your are safe! But IMO this is going to be a total loss. I was wrecked into about 6 months ago and airbags didn't deploy. My damage was around 14k.

    Like, so many.
I was in a really bad accident in my 16 Taco and my only "injury" was scraped knuckles from an airbag. My truck was MANGLED. I feel super safe. These things are TOUGH.

I have State Farm as well and they were very fair. I did goniver the options list line by line and there were some they missed that increased the amount of the check I got, so be sure to do that. Interestingly, the Sport hood adds no dollar value.

So for an adjuster to call it a total loss if damage is, say, 50-75% of book (or whatever it is), if you know it’s gonna be close are you better off not telling an adjuster about add ons/mods?

Obviously, if the estimate isnt gonna be close to totaling the truck, you wanna get your money for any damaged mods. But the extra value could potentially keep them from “totaling” the truck if you bump up the value too far?

    Am I making any sense?

The only way this would be a $15K loss is if you were upside down to begin with when you purchased this truck. I just had my truck appraised and they offered me $34K. I paid $34,100 plus tax, with taxes and fees in mind I stand to lose somewhere around $3-4K.
Point I make is you shouldn’t be losing your ass when the insurance company comes to cut you a check.

That is true but this still looks like frame would've taken it. Point I was trying to make was perpetual had no visible cab or bed issues that come with a bent frame but still had it.

Besides airbags alone are probably worth in the 8000+ range and all the other damage.

You can get diminished value. If they fix it and it's worth $10k less than it was before the accident then they owe you $10k.
