Anybody else experience an intermittent knock/surge at idle with 1.02 when they are running the ac? It's only with the AC on but it causes the engine to go up and down in rpm when the compressor kicks on, and far as I can tell with my OBD2 reader, each surge in rpm is accompanied by the engine timing going nuts. It goes from normal 16-18 degrees of advance to like 35 or 38 to try to speed the engine up and every time that happens when timing goes back to normal there's an audible and tactile knock

It would do it constantly on the stock tune, haven't noticed it at all with 1.02.

The knock sound will be the AC compressor clutch engaging/disengaging.

Notice anything physically looking at your exhaust when this is happening out of curiosity? If timing is indeed going nuts it could cause some AF issues that may be visible in your exhaust.

Yeah, but it's characteristic of the vehicle...not tune related (unless they manually set idle higher). The A/C compressor kicking on creates load on the engine and it increases idle to compensate. It's noisy when it kicks on and the related surge in idle speed and nvh that accompanies that adds to it.

It definitely happens on 1.02 the exact same as 1.01 and stock...don't think OVTune is going to be able to or need to address this one.

Not any smoke or anything like that, but I do feel a big rush of air through the exhaust and same with the intake theres a huge WHOOSH every time it does it

It's a normal characteristic for a vehicles rpm to change when the AC pump engages. It happens on most vehicles.

Mine definitely ramps the RPMs up higher than any other vehicle I’ve owned.

I’ll hook up techstream and see if it’s knocking today / see what my timing is doing.

Your timing is going to look crazy because when the A/C kicks on, the RPM and load column changes are going to throw it into another section of the map so the fuel and timing changes too. The timing isn't the cause, it's the result.

My techstream simply disconnects when I press the monitoring button on the engine, will have to try with the Tactrix cable tonight.

Need to learn more about using TIS... I played with a bit over the weekend, some active tests but when I saved the recorded data nothing seems to be readable when I reopen to analyze. Some of those active tests are interesting

I wouldn’t say timing goes crazy.

This is idling with the AC cycling. Forgot to add rpm to the graph. I’ll play with it later.

So even with the stock tune that surge in idle speed when the AC compressor kicks in seems overly violent. I've never had any knocking, but the way the engine jumps or rocks feels kinda like killing the ignition for a split second. This may be another thing Mat could fix for us down the road...

I have mine set up, sent my stock file early Sunday morning, filled my truck up with 93 octane, and still don't have an email with the tune. How long does it normally take to get your tune?

Mat may be waiting until 1.02C is ready before he sends out pending tune files. That's what happened to me, when 1.02b came out.
