As others have said, if you "need" 4wd, or would use it occasionally, by all means, trade up. And yes, you'll lose money......just like everyone ever born does when they sell or trade an older vehicle and get a new one. At least it won't be as big a hit, percentagewise, as it would be if you were trading your '15 BMW/Volvo/Mercedes/you-name-the-brand on an '18 model. Lots of cars lose 50% of their value in three model years, but your truck ought to be worth closer to 70%. I traded my '11 Tundra and it retained nearly that much after 6 years. Can't complain about that.

No comment on the color, that's totally your call and everyone's tastes are different. I personally don't care for the Barcelona red or white. My beef with white is that, around here, there are almost more pickups than cars on the road, and I swear that half of them are white. Almost all fleet/work trucks are white, and it's also popular with 'civilians' too. Interestingly, I don't see many white Tacomas, primarily full-sized trucks. Of course, it's curiously good at not showing dirt, keeping the interior a couple degrees cooler, and general visibility. My Tundra was white. But there are just too many white trucks!

First off, congrats on beating cancer! My local dealer had two trucks exactly the same on the lot. The only difference was color. One was white one was MGM. White was my first choice and MGM was my second choice. The white one had sold literally hours before I got to the dealer so I took the MGM. At the time I wasn’t even interested in looking at the cement color. But after seeing one in person, that would now be my first choice. If you can get it on the vehicle you want I’d say go for cement. White won’t show dirt nearly as bad as the MGM but it’s still a very close toss up. The MGM is beautiful.

    I have went from a silver 2016 2wd sr 4cyl access cab to a white 2016 v6 sr5 2wd dcsb... To a black 2017 sr5 4x4...

Totaled the 4 banger. But happy it happened in the long run... Ended up getting a better truck, v6 and double cab, for about the same price... But i got screwed the first go around...

    But still regretted not having a 4x4... So after a year i traded the 2016 2wd v6 on a 2017 4wd v6... From white 2wd to black 4wd...

No extra money down, my payments went up $39 bucks a month and i lost that year i paid on the white 2wd. Well worth it imo.

I off-road a few times a week and live a mile and a half from pavement... My road is either really dusty or really muddy...

White was the best color as far as looking clean the longest, then the silver sky was close 2nd... Black is horrible... I can't keep it clean to save my life and it shows scratches like crazy... But cleaned up its my favorite color of the 3 i had.

My gas mileage went down from 21-23 with the 2wd to now 17-19 with 4wd.

But I'm finally truly happy... I had been stuck a few times in the 2wd... And had to turn around on certain "bad" trails... That's no longer an issue. I love my truck.

I've never used cruise control w/ my 6spd MT. I should try it one day. But then my clutch would get neglected.

I love MGM, but it is a little hard to take care of. The new darker silver is really nice too.
And don't feel bad OP. I had a 4x2 Nissan Frontier pro4x before I bought my taco. Drove it less than a year. Took a HUGE loss on it.

Go get what you want. It's not worth it to be miserable only to save a few grand. I'm partial to white. :) Can't go wrong with any of the colors honestly. I like that white is easy to keep clean, really pops and looks great with a set of black wheels.

I'm sorry, but how fast do you drive? I'm in Chicago and its been in the 90s with stupid percents of humidity. My 4x2 has been averaging 28mpg. And thats with ECT on most of the time. Are you in the V6 or 4-cyl?

Also, my advice is the same, if you don't have what you truly want, then upgrade if you can afford to. I wanna see you use those sexy tires.

I screwed up twice. Once on a Frontier last year. too small and drank gas, then on my Taco, lots more truck for the money but soon realized I would always be a full size truck kinda guy. So currently in an F- 150 4x4 with the 2.7 Ecoboost. I finally am happy. Moral too the story, get what makes you happy!

Anyhow, OP. Let us know what you decide. I assume that, like the rest of us, you plan to drive your Taco into the grave correct?

    Cruise control is for cruising.

What do you do with the clutch while cruising?

OP, I love my MGM but I don't blame you at all for wanting to go in a different direction. 100% get a 2018 TRD OR in Cement. I'm curious to see what Toyota does on that model without the Pro grille though, you obviously can't put the chrome OR grille (and chrome badges for that matter) on Cement paint. That would look dumb.

I mean...you only really use cruise control on long stretches of road where you don't use the clutch anyway lol.
