I went to the Ford racing school earlier this summer. The instructors were very practical about heel and toe techniques. Just do anything that works for you to get your foot on the brake and gas at the same time. You can toe the brake or toe the gas; or you can just move to the right and rock your foot. It depends on which way your foot will move the best considering the pedal locations. It's also much easier when you're screaming down the track and then mashing the brake while you tickle the throttle as you enter a turn. High pressure on the brake makes heal and toe easy. There's little practical use for heel and toe on the street - unless you drive like you're on a track!

It makes down shifting way smoother so I'll disagree with you on street use, but everything else:thumbsup:

This exact thing happened to me the other day. Was with my brother driving to go see Slayer in PHX and at a light him and I were talking and he shouts, "GO!" So I quickly grab reverse. Started to slowly move and I realized the rear view camera come on. Got sh*t on the rest of the day in pure jest, but still...

the issue i'm having is beyond the groan... all the parts are loose and wobbly. everytime i touch the pedal it feels like about half the bit in the assembly are moving around, not a little, but way too much. i just want the squeak/groan still there so the dealer doesn't give me any hard time about it.

yeah man, that freaked me out cus i was still rolling forward and in traffic. we were talking so i didn't even hear the Reverse beeping. before it wouldn't shift into R so easy, but being broken in now with a super heavy knob it's a danger now. can't wait for the SS to go in Thursday.

I've done track stuff with my friends GTI 6spd. And For some reason I can't do the heel toe. So I just race around downshift to get me enough engine brake and pop the corner and go. Still got a faster time than him, but I am sure I've lost a few seconds with that tactic or lack there of ha.

I feel you on that one. It doesn't feel tight to me. I am very new to the DIY portion of fixing a clutch assembly so I don't know what to tighten or grease up. I just hit 28k and we're past all of the "free" maintenance stuff.. so now is a better time to learn.

i have the same sentiment but what i got none of is time to do anything about this. and i can't afford down time with the truck, so i won't be opening any can of worms with something like that clutch assembly. i would probably pay far too much for something aftermarket if it was available. it's the ONE THING on my truck that totally wreaks of cheapness.

Gotcha, sounds like something in the pedal assembly is not right, they will probably replace it.

if you just go in to the assembly and move the parts behind the pedal around with your fingers, will they move? a little or a lot?

Really sucks because I drove my gf's dad's audi s5i or whatever and that clutch is flawless. Granted, it's an audi. But my friends VW GTI's clutch is unreal. But super smooth for both. They both have those steel pedals too.

my last car was a crazy modified VW R32. yeah man, believe me i get it. i love the truck more and have way more fun driving it, believe it or not. except for that top of clutch travel... just that tiny little moment in time when all is imperfect lol

The pushrod from the clutch pedal has a little bit of movement.

thanks. that, and the barrel, and where it connects in the rear, all of it feels like it's about to fall apart. ugh, to the dealer.

Not a mechanic, not qualified to answer other than having driven two MT cars and four MT trucks over my adult lifetime.

All that said, this 3.5L is built to rev (IMO). When in doubt I wouldn't hesitate to downshift and get deep into the 4000+ RPM range especially when charging up a grade. I'd rather make the engine do work than the trans.

    That's me though.

Anyone know what the barrel or puck shaped object is on the pushrod? Some sort of damper? The length adjustment appears to be standard screw and lock-nut.

I have been reading on here for quite a while and in this thread it seems a lot were complaining about the shifting in the 3rd Gens. I just picked mine up today and man, it feels a ton better than my 2006 did! My 2006 seemed really sloppy and 'jerky'. The 2016 is definitely improved IMO.

I love it. I think it's the most fun thing around. Only thing I wish it had was more torque and speed. But that'll be for when I get an audi.

Other than that. I noticed that I have to take my time when shifting and voila we never have problems. It's just a treat to drive and I feel like it's a new truck every time I get in it.

Agreed! It seems it has a lot less torque in the low end, probably for fuel economy. But once you get over 3500RPMs that thing boogies!

I couldn't agree more. I actually raced a porsche in this thing on the freeway. We started going and I couldn't believe that I kept up (a car length) behind the entire time. The porsche didn't even pull away. Plus that was the day that the Albino Rhino and I became one.
