I was wondering the same thing. I too have held off to see what kind of deals they offer on the '17's and/or '18's when they come out. To me, it doesn't seem like there will be a shortage of m/t, premium package ones around me. I don't know that I'll finance though, unless they offer me 0.9%, then maybe...

I bought my truck this past Friday and from what the finance guy told me Toyota does not usually offer really low finance rates on Tacoma's and Four Runners. He said because the vehicles sell themselves. Take that for what its worth.

Yea -- that makes sense and is what I've seen to be true. Honda and Toyota both run 1.9% as the lowest typically. The place we bought my wife's Sienna from works with a lot of banks apparently and was able to get us a 1.89% thru capital 1 so we were able to take the $1000 cash (instead of opting for the same rate thru Toyota).

I figure I'll just ask and if they can't do it, oh well.

What are the chances Toyota shows the 2018 Tacoma and announces the new features (safety stuff etc, new grills, change in packages etc.) at the Texas state fair that opens later this week? Auto makers have used the Texas state fair to announce trucks in the past.

Actually the 4X4 TRD sport with the manual trans is getting a leather upgrade and power moon roof at no extra charge. Don't ask me how I know this. In Canada, not sure about the US.

This! The Tacoma TRD Pro was debuted at the 2017 Texas State Fair. If they don't announce it at this show, they would be missing out on a great audience. Hell, they're already late to the game for the 2018 model year if you ask me.

    I like this guy. :hattip:

The "invoice" number you get from the web, or provided by a dealer is a fabricated crock of crap, typically around 7% less than MSRP--their real cost has to be at least in the MSRP minus 25% to 30% range (some models are probably more heavily discounted) same as any other big ticket item retailer--if not why would anyone invest in a automobile dealership?

I was plant engineer for a smaller manufacturing company years ago, our highest volume distributors (buying $5M to $10M of product/yr) got a 25-15-10 discount from MSRP. I.e. for each MSRP dollar they paid 75¢ - 11.25¢ (15% of 75¢) - 6.38¢ (10% of 63.75¢) or 57.4¢. A 42.6% discount from MSRP.

They could then "wholesale" the product at 20% off MSRP and have a 39% markup (they sell for 80¢ what cost them 57.4¢).

While this is an extreme example this sort of discounting from manufacturers is common.

Here's a not great, but not bad article re: "invoice price" by Clark Howard. It contains a link to this site which though dated explains the game manufacturers and dealers have been playing for over 20 years...

Just spoke with my dealer. The '18 Pro will be available for order in November with a January arrival date.

Nothing about price or packages just yet.

Wow....I surely don't have the patience to wait that long. If I don't have a build date within the next three-four weeks, I'm going to cancel my order and pursue other options.

Come on Toyota, talk to us...

I'm in no rush at all, so that works in my favor. After some google searching, it looks like Toyota will have the truck at the State Fair of Texas Auto Show (as hoped for above), so I'll be sure and head over there and get some pictures, if possible.

Sorry the only one full of shit here is you :(

Lets just run with your #s though, my dealership sold 400 cars last month, average total is usually right around $2k/copy. But wait that's based off 7% markup, according to you there must be another 20% hidden profit! Average vehicle sold in the US is over $30k but lets just stick with $30k to be conservative. An extra 20% of $30k on 400 units is $2.4 MILLION dollars.... PER MONTH! Dude if that was actually happening you'd see sales managers and GMs retiring after 5 years in the business, they'd be fucking millionaires in no time lol.

You also don't seem to realize there's publicly traded dealer groups, their profits can't be hidden that would literally be illegal. New car sales has always operated on razor thin margins this isn't a conspiracy its business.

All the information is right there at your fingertips bro just google it.... living in ignorance in the age of information is a personal choice.

Even if it was true, it's meaningless to the buyer. All that matters is what price you have to pay to get the vehicle you want, which is driven by supply vs. demand and not profit margins. Yes, manufacturers and dealers make greater margins (not close to what you describe) off pickups/crossovers than other types of vehicles, but that's solely because consumers are buying them faster than they can be made.

Once Toyota has their second Mexico plant churning out Tacos AND the market is saturated with new midsize offerings from Ford and Nissan, potentially combined with a recession and/or higher gas prices, they'll be practically giving Tacos away. It's always fun to be a buyer when the supply/demand ratio is in your favor; I bought a VW GTI last year for like 20% off MSRP, thanks to Dieselgate+unpopularity of small cars. When you look at the features you can get on cars in unpopular segments right now for <$30k, it really highlights the absurdity of paying ~$40k for a pickup that lacks features found on a $18k Kia (power seats, ventilated seats, HID headlights, etc).

When midsize sedans were the hot ticket, manufacturers were quite stingy with luxury features (reserving those for their luxury brands). When small cars fell out of favor, you were able to get features formerly only available on $50k luxury cars in a $18k Kia.

If and when the midsize pickup market reaches saturation (circa 2022 is my guess), I promise you'll start seeing the same thing. The days of a $40k midsize pickup with manual cloth seats, rear drum brakes, and halogen headlights will be a thing of the past.

If the midsize pickup truck market gets saturated that won't all the sudden mean you get top of the line features showing up in the new trucks.

You won't find those luxury features in a $18k Kia, what you find in a $18k Kia are 5-10 year old features that have become practical to reproduce at a fraction of the cost. No different for trucks, wait 5-10 years and all the cool features in BMW's, Mercedes, Bentleys will start showing up.

But my point is those features in that $18k Kia still haven't trickled down to said $40k Taco, and that's solely because Toyota quickly sells every Taco they make, even if they are expensive and lacking basic features consumers expect in other segments.
