Has anyone else attempted a to build a box for their center console on an access cab? I found this picture while ripping through the search results for a stealthbox and i was very interested in seeing if anyone had done it? My plan is to try and get an 8inch sub in there and have it sound good. Sounds simple enough, but i'd love to hear from anyone with experience in trying it? yeah, i know there are much easier options out there, but i want to be able to fold the jump seats up and down at ease and have the full length of the rear access cab (for my dog, of course).

the thread i found the picture on is below (and yes i PM'd him as well)

for me, i will only go with ported sub boxes, so unless this can have a slot port (i think that would be best) at the top or bottom i wouldn't even consider it.

edit, also it doesn't look like he has lost any space in the cup holders :S shouldn't they be trimmed as well?

Yea for an 8" sub you wont get much out of it unless ported. It has to be a good 8".

i was also thinking could you raise the console a bit to allow the box to be a bit taller. i hate how you loose so much console room. mines filled with useful stuff

Well, i would most likely be going with the JL 8", but if you port it, you also have to increase the box volume...defeating the purpose of the small/hidden enclosure. I was even considering the new 6.5" inch JL sub as it only requires a TINY ported volume (i believe its .15 cubic feet)

I don't expect it to win any competitions, but i do want some lower end and i need to be able to use most of the space in the access cab. I'm not so worried about losing the center console room, but i DON'T want to replace the console all together with a custom built center console, simply pop a box IN it.

I'd imagine if you have the towing package with the outlet in the bed that box is EXTRA impossible. That's where the power inverter is mounted.

Mike, what you should REALLY do is figure out how much airspace you have to work with and THEN choose your sub.

Well, i was looking through JL's install instructions, and they show how to get around it...but they are also pushing the sub out what looks like 6 inches...

Ooooh, I didn't know it was an actual stealth box that JL made. That's pretty cool but it seems like you're compromising quite a bit with it. You lose all your center console space and you have to cut it up.

They do, and i have been talkign to Mr. Marv a lot about that. He said he has even installed 8 inchers in the front doors, but those components run close to a grand themselves. The main hindrance for the door mounted subs is that they are still deep enough that i may have to cut the door plastic and you also need to seal the inside of each door to the point of turning them into a "sub box". i was really just hoping there would be a cost effective "JL-knockoff"...but i suppose if JL already did the legwork and that is the best they could come up with...i doubt i am going to get much better.

Just picked up a 2010 double cab, and just came across the jl stealthbox (with dual 10's). Anyone have anything good/bad to say about em? I know it's a bit on the expensive side, but was more curious as to it's performance capabilities....thanks in adavance

I'm only looking for an option that lets me keep the jump seats folded DOWN so that i have the cargo area.

you could do this, however your rear (full range) speaker would be gone. :D
