The fuel door on my truck does not have a lock so I installed a locking gas cap within a few days of buying it. I walk out of the house last week and find my fuel door was open. Seriously crappy feeling.

How hard is it to replace the fuel door with one that has a lock? Any idea what a junkyard would charge?

Did they open your locking cap too?

Yeah, did they get into the tank? I have a locking cap too. Twice I have found my door open, but my locking cap still in place. No sugar was put in, and no gas was taken out, so I was relieved :)

I'm sure it's very easy to install a lock. but I don't imagine it's gona stop anyone who really wants in. I can't believe people steal gas. pathetic!

Don't think they make a locking door, just cap. If your cap wasn't tampered with, you are good and safe.

Sounds like a neighbor kid, not a fuel thief.

A member PM'ed -- asked where I got the locking cap. I sent PM's to answer, but no messages show up in the "sent" folder.

So FYI folks: Picked up the locking cap at Advance Auto Parts. It was an in-stock item. IIRC, it was less than $20.

NAPA and Advance Auto Parts both charge more than a 10 spot. You must have some decent prices where you live.
