Amazon / X-Bull / X-Traction / Offroad Boar 4WD Recovery Boards?

The X-Bull / X-Traction / Offroad Boar 4WD recovery traction boards all appear to be the same product sold under different names.


In the last 4 years, Ive never put myself in the situation where I would need these. Ive been thinking about it a lot more recently though. I do a lot of fishing and hunting and camping by myself so If I were to get into a situation where I would need recovery boards, Id like to have a set. I feel like these would be a good addition to the shovel I carry.

Most of the places I go are state / national forest roads or game lands roads, so they are typically crushed limestone and are in pretty good shape but every once in a while, Ill find some sketchy spots especially in the winter on seasonably maintained roads.

Id like to purchase a set of these just a piece of mind in hopes of never using them. Unfortunately, being on a budget, I cant justify the cost of Maxtrax's.

I know you typically get what you pay for, but Im hoping the reasonable price of these recovery boards doesnt translate into them junk. They seem to get a good review overall.

I have never used them or owned them, yet, however after seeing another member from here at a meet recently they looked and felt well worth the money.

 

Damm I might want to get some of these.

I have both the X-Bull and these

Maxsa Boards. Bought the Maxsa boards for around $90 on Amazon...price on them always fluctuates. The X-Bulls nest better and have the bag. The Maxsas are longer and have more pronounced traction "nubs". Comparatively they'll both perform the job the same but if you're not going to actually mount them, I'd go with the X-Bull for the slightly smaller footprint (both in length and stacking/nesting) and the bag (which isn't anything more than what you should expect in a free bag with some plastic boards).

Side note, the red X-Bull boards aren't a vibrant red like you'd expect but almost boarderlining on pink.

 

Wow, for under $100 it's hard NOT to justify these. Immediately after looking at the product I was skeptical on how tough they would be. That picture of the damn fork lift on top of it sold me on durability. Those things are damn near 10,000lbs.

How's the quality of the X-Bull ones? Do they feel cheap or like they are built to be used?

I like the idea of them fitting together better to make storage easier.

 

Keep in mind the majority of a forktruck's mass is aft of the front axle via the engine trans and counterweight however it is still impressive.

The geometric patterning and structure of any board provides great capacity, usually the downfall of tractionboards isn't their load capacity but rather if you manage to spin on them, they melt quickly.

FRP (Fibreglass reinforced plastic) would be a more resilient material I imagine.

 

They feel more solid than the Maxsa boards. Personally, I like the X-Bull one's more than the Maxsa.

 

I have these as well. Bought them for snow, but haven't needed them yet. Good to know you've had winter success with them.

 

True. Although the product page does list a 10ton load limit for flat ground so it does seem like they are quite tough. And yeah, I can see friction being an issue for sure!

 

I think I'm gonna order a set and see what happens.

 

I have the Maxsa boards and I'm happy with them and they work well. Like other people mentioned, they're plenty strong as long as you don't use them for bridging. Their real weakness (which is the same for pretty much all plastic traction boards) is you need to be careful not to spin your tires on them because they will melt quickly.

 

I carry two sets of the X-bull ones... Have a friend that paid like 3x what I did for the namebrand maxtraxx(not maxxsa)... We literally had to use my 4 and his 4 on an extraction of a full size diesel w/ cabover once and they all worked perfectly. Have used them a couple other times on my Taco.A no brainer for me to carry whenever off road.

 

Just picked up a set of X-Bulls on Amazon for $55. Just delivered today. They look stout. No need to pay more for maxtrax when I’m buying then as a ‘in case’ and a leveling device for my RTT. Would highly recommend.

 

Do you have one of the other color x-bulls? (not the red)? I checked the price history and it says the cheapest they have been sold for is 89$

 

Good to hear. Im surprise how much positive feedback there is in here for for these "off brand" recovery boards. I expected to read bad things.

The 55$ ones are the 2nd generation ones, correct? Im curious to hear more about them
