That's like marrying the wrong person. Sucks to have that feel, go for the truck you want.

That is of course unless you've got gobs of money and KNOW that you always will.

Seriously, appreciate what you've got and don't delve into another huge financial hole!

If you want a 4x4 to get into wheeling then be forewarned, the expenses do not end with the purchase of a 4x4 truck. That's only the beginning. Offroading is one hell of an expensive hobby, both in mods and in repairs. And not the kind of repairs that your warranty will honor.

Thanks for the advice I will take this into consideration. Im only going to see what I can work out, those prices are blind appraises, i feel I can get more for my truck and lower the price on the new truck.

Forget everyone else, do what you want since its your money. I’ve always said there is nothing worse than paying for a vehicle you’re not happy with. Sometimes piece of mind and the smile on your face when you get in a vehicle you love overrides a little financial common sense.
Your previous warranty’s along with gap insurance can be cancelled and refunded to you at a prorated amount. The money from those should help offset some of your costs with the trade.

Realistically how many times are you going to turn that dial from 2wd to 4h or 4l in the real world aside from testing it out? Stay with what you have. There will always be newer and shinnier things life.

I'm new to 4x4 as well. I did get the 4wd but have been on a few 4x4 roads that I did just fine in 2wd. Clearance of the truck is probably as important and I think the 2wd is the same or close.

As for 50k or 45k and 5k in warranties, I think you should take a course in how to buy a car. Of course, those who overpay make it possible for the rest of us to get good deals - helps the overall dealer average.

No one with gobs of money is $5k upside down on a loan. They pay cash or they are investing and make it up somewhere else.

I love having 4x4 and CRAWL - it's been a lot of fun in several situations. I use it maybe once a month where I NEED it and that's just because I seek out situations to use it. I also find that in testing, there's a shitton I can do in 2wd in this truck so long as I have load in the bed... I would never buy a truck that's not 4wd b/c i don't like to be overly limited. That said, I do easy stuff relatively speaking b/c as others have mentioned, doing hardcore offroading is EXPENSIVE.

It's a spiral... you need bigger more aggressive tires, then you have to have a lift, then you need regearing for your bigger tires, then you need custom rock sliders and more skids, then a snorkel, onboard air, wench, offroad bumper, etc., Easily another 10-15k if you want an OFFROAD rig. I didn't do any of that though personally - I have done a lot of utility mods that are designed primarily to protect and haul stuff on my cab, bed, bed racks, etc, but still have spent far more customizing this truck than I EVER thought I would when I bought it. Is a fun hobby though :)

^ Definitely this! Not to discount my own advice due to my age, but I've had 9 vehicles from the age of 15-22. All paid for (or financed) and signed with my name. I've definitely made some mistakes and got super lucky in paying some off.

That being said if you're going to put yourself into further debt make DAMN sure that truck is EXACTLY what you want and that you WILL be keeping it for a long period of time. If you don't do this you'll be settling and after a couple of payments you will be pissed that you put yourself in the same situation but with more debt.

No one seems to be mentioning... keep your current truck, suck it up, and work your ass off to get out of the negative equity so that you can get rid of the truck and get what you want.

    TL;DR

Smart decision: Get out of the current truck and drive something older/cheaper until your financed are in order.

"Get what you want" Decision: Put yourself in further debt, but ensure the truck is EXACTLY what you want and that you can afford it financially for the foreseeable future.
Either way with your next purchase make sure you set expectations for yourself.

By your own admission, you made a $44,000 purchase without fully researching said purchase.

You think so? Financially, you would not be better off. You need to separate happiness/desires from prudence.

    This is prudence.

    This is prudence.
