I bought my 2017 Access Cab for three reasons: "Man" ual transmission, has a normal key to start it, and it can tow twice what my Rubicon could. So far, could not be happier!

Only skimmed first post. You drive a manual taco now, you will regret not getting another manual.

I went from a 2002 manual Tacoma to a 2017 automatic SR. I regretted it so very much. I literally drove off the lot feeling upset that I got an automatic. I had the car for 5 months and sold it. I now have a 2017 TRD off road manual. I couldn’t love it more.

Get a manual. You won’t regret it.

That's the third person to go from a manual... To an automatic Tacoma... And then trade it for a manual Tacoma in less than a year of ownership. Apparently we really like the truck, just not the auto transmission.

Considering you drive a manual now, I'd stick with it.

You have an MT... get another. Unless you live your life in 3mph traffic... no reason whatsoever not to.

But my old '82 with none of the electronic goodies would go just as many places. Don't worry about the stuff you'll lose out on!

I work at the dealership although anyone can order one. Go on and talk to the sales manager. I'm expecting it to arrive mid December.

Last year in August I was able to go to yota dot com and build my 17, as of the other day the web site still only had 17s.

Go and see a component salesperson. they have information on the '18's that the general public doesn't have access too. I ordered a TRD Sport with a manual and was pleasantly surprised they had upgraded the model with leather and a power moon roof for the '18.

I've had both the AT and Manual 3rd gens. The manual is fun, sure don't get me wrong on that. I spend most of my time on the roads and got tired of constantly shifting because people not wanting to wait 3 seconds for you to go by, so instead they pull out in front of you, or when people turning. Not to mention it's still clunky, the rev hang, and squeaky clutch pedal. Sure the squeak can be fixed but I shouldn't have to take it to the dealer every few months when it squeaks again. I know people tow with the manual, but I wasn't a fan of wearing the clutch out more and more everytime I pulled our little popup around.

I've got the AT again now and don't regret it. Also, if you do end up getting the manual, why not just go for the sport and save a little? Like you said, you lose most of the off road features, but still get the skewp if that's what you want. If it's the cement color you want, wait for the 18s and get the sport in cement. I wanted the off road again so I went with the auto to get all of the features you actually paid for. People knock the AT shifting, but it honestly isn't all that bad. Could it use some tweaking? Sure, but you learn how it drives just like you learn to downshift the MT. Also OVTune has some good stuff in the works for the AT guys.

naw, don't need them hounding me. Last year info was on the web before my dealership had any info, or atleast thats the line they fed me. Got into a big pissing match with them over the MSRP, that I could find but they couldn't.

I heard the manual does not give you the push start button and auto key locks??? But it's about $$$3k less than the auto. At least that's what I saw on YouTube last night, check it out.

no push button on the manual, thats a win in my book.

Edit: or auto lock. Again win!

    I had a 16 auto (50k miles) and now drive a 17 manual (21k Miles).

Since you are already a manual guy, the auto will make you sad. It’s a lot more work to find a mt but I can tell you it’s worth the effort and wait time.

The more I drive the MT, the more I’m convinced it’s the only transmission to get in this truck unless the only thing you do is puts around town at 45 mph. The power delivery is much much better and once I hit 6th gear I very rarely have to drop out of it unless I’m out west somewhere in the mountains.

I’m also getting about 2 more mpg out of the mt than I did from the auto driving them basically the same areas. I actually probably drive the manual harder because it’ll do it and feels right.

Noooo! I wanted those and didn't see it mentioned in the changes. I settled on a 2017 Sport mainly for the MT and Access Cab. Oh well! For cloth, I like it a lot. The moon roof would be really nice.

    Have a good one.

It's just too bad they don't make the dclb in a manual. That would be about the most perfect truck there is.
