    Good afternoon ladies and gents,

I am new to this forum so please forgive me if this question has been answered or is not in the right area. I've searched the forum, but have not found a solid answer

I recently bought a 2017 TRD OR. Have always wanted a Tacoma since I was 18. Finally got one and love the truck. I have taken the truck off roading a few times but am still new to doing so.
Coming from some one who is new to off roading this may seem like a dumb question. In order to use the rear locker, the truck has to be in 4LO, I do "slightly" understand the concepts of 4LO and how a rear locker works but isn't a rear locker kind of pointless if the truck is in 4LO? What circumstances would would you need to use the rear locker in 4wd?
My buddies older 2wd Taco has a rear locker. That makes a little more sense to me from a usefulness standpoint. Like I said, I am new, so I obviously don't know a lot.

    Thanks

Why you think it would be useless in 4low? Rear locker does same thing whether in 2wd, 4hi or 4low. It locks the rear wheels together so that when power is applied they both spin same amount. Without the locker locked power goes to wheel with least resistance.

4 lo gives you better mechanical advantage and of course locks front wheels to rear wheels, but left to right can still have different speeds. Locking left to right in the rear really does help if you're in a situation that needs it.

Also fun when locked in 2wd to get that rear end loose, I love my ARB lockers.

The locker is beneficial when your suspension is articulating to the point where a wheel lifts off the ground or has limited traction. The vehicle will then send all power to the wheel with less traction, the one in the air. A locker locks both left and right wheels allowing full power to be sent to both wheels instead of one.

I have been in this situation through a series of moguls for lack of a better term where my front wheels could not gain traction to pull be through and I had one rear wheel in the air. I click the locker and I move right through.

    Here.

Butterz such a great question. One I was wondering myself right up until last weekend when I went down a trail I probably should not have. I got turned around and headed back out. My friend said "you know on the way in one back tire was a couple of feet off the ground and you should use your locker to get out". Duh

My buddy in a Jeep slid all over and did manage to get out. I never spun, stopped and took pics etc.

The wheels at 18 lbs a piece are a good balance for the 59 lbs KO2's. They have taken quite a bit of beating and still are in shape and haven't lost a bead yet. I have some damaging going through a creek bed but after I patch it up and wet sand I was actually going to try plasti dip mine bronze.
