Looks like it will have horrible on road characteristics, especially in the rain/snow

Federal has an interesting history. They have always been a Taiwan based tire company but when they first started out they were basically made by Bridgestone and later Sumitomo. Since the late 90s they have stood on their own. The Couragia MT is a hardcore mud tire but I’d like to hear any thoughts from anyone running them. I haven’t seen them since the 90s.

My question is, why? Are they significantly cheaper? If not, why not go with a known good name brand?

About $130 a tire for the Couragia MT in 265/75/16 so that’s not bad for a MT. When we had them they held up well but Sumitomo made them and they are a good lower priced tire.

Federals ??? don't do it. If you want I'll let you have my employee 15% discount through tire buyer (Similar to tire rack)
Federals have no type of warranty and you'll be lucky if you get a complete set without defects.

Yeah I’d listen to whoever has recent experience. In the 90s we had no issues with them but that was a long time ago and I think Sumitomo made them back then. I’m not sure about the warranty either.

The federal MT’s are awful, i didnt have them personally but my buddy did. They last 15k before tread bars were showing and they were chipping. Even off road they didnt grip very well at all in mud or anywhere else. He wished he paid more and had a good pair last a little longer and perform better.

Federals are only good if you have an obscure wheel size and need something specific that they don't make anymore. I've used them on an Rx7 that needed 13 inch tires, they worked well... when it was dry.
