Maybe it's because I came from a 15 year old Gen1 DC 4x4, but I really enjoy the way this thing drives. The Gen1 with 32's and 240k miles was quite the dog. The Gen3 with 32's, I step on it, and it goes. Plenty fast enough for my needs.

Transmission hasn't troubled me yet (unless I just throw it in "D" and get on the highway). It automatically goes into "sport" mode and 4th when I get in with mostly city driving. If I get on the freeway, I bump it up to 5th. Stays there unless I'm on a long and flat section, and I'll bump it up to 6.

I realize it may all be perception, or just the 15 yr old Gen1 being old and tired, but the driving experience for me is greatly improved in the Gen3. Yeah....it seems like you shouldn't need as much pedal as it takes to make it go, but once you get past that and give it the amount of pedal it wants, it seems to go well enough for me.

The only way I see this truck disappointing me is if it is not at least nearly as reliable as the Gen1 was. If things start breaking, can't take the abuse, or leaves me stranded (CPS anyone? Got a spare coming though.), then I'll think quite differently about it.

I will miss the maneuverability of the Gen1 to be sure. That truck was like driving a ATV with air conditioning and a bed. The size of this one (and the enormous hood) will leave me a little more unsure in the dirt and tight trails.

in my case i did the opposite. I'm tall and the seat is too high and too flat. i had them drop it, carve out a good bucket, and add light foam to take out the slack from removing the structural foam. it worked. before i couldn't drive for more than 90 minutes from numbness in my right leg, and now it's about the most comfortable seat i own.

when i first took delivery of my 2016 TRD Sport DCLB 3.5L, i had already driven one just like the one I ended of purchasing....only difference is when I drove it off the lot, I could not believe the shifting, poor acceleration and the gear shifting when using cruise control......very upset because this was my first truck ever......it was one of our "bucket list" items.....

I have had my fair share of issues (tranny low fluid, differential weeping and now a water leak) but Toyota is fixing or trying to find a solution....I guess though what gets my goat, is that on two occasions the particular dealer I went to cleaned things up and denied anything was wrong.....but CEO office got things worked out. Did I think of selling or trading....absolutely......but I just stuck it out....my MPGs are probably above the average (22-24 now) and really good on freeway (25-28 at 73mph)

Even with those issues, I throughly enjoy driving this truck...Yes, riding with the ETC on does make a tremendous difference and there are two other options for those issues poster on TW.....but.....i love this truck and just look for things to do in order to get in and drive it everyday.

I think the only reason I would trade or sell is to get leather seats and power seats......but there is a great leather seat (Classio) which I will look at very close......but a big thank you to all the moderators and members who post here.....for a newbie to trucks, I am learning hundreds of things thanks to all of you.....

Not yet, but Mat has promised to develop one for M/Ts once the autos are figured out. That said, the tunes already released make a big difference in how my M/T drives.

Good info, may have to look into that. May just hold off though, I may just go to 4.88s eventually. I don't expect to be on a tire smaller than 33" for the rest of the time I have the truck anyway

I had a 4-cylinder Tacoma for a while and decided to trade it in. Best of luck in whatever you decided to do.

I'm still wondering if it's possible one day to shoehorn that into mine and mate it up to my MT.

OK, so I respect and appreciate others viewpoints on the third generation trucks. This is my FIRST Toyota (ever) and I can't say I'm at all disappointed.

I've owned (and built) two trucks, a 1967 Suburban and a 1975 Blazer. I've also owned Cadillacs, Volkswagons and Subarus. Most of these vehicles, I've put 100,000+ miles on. Additionally, I've operated just about every type of Fire Engine and Ambulance made, powered by Detroit, Cummings and Mercedes Diesels, geared by Allison and other manual and EATMs.

My TACO drives and handles well. Sure, the engine and tranny operate differently than other vehicles I've owned and driven, but not in a way I couldn't adjust to or is "bad." I think if you purchase into a vehicle and expect it to operate in "a certain way," instead of adjusting to how "it actually operates," you'll always be disappointed.

    Just my opinion...

For what it is, the truck ain't slow. It just needs RPMs to make power..... and the drive by wire isn't as responsive as a cable.... OVTune is fixing that last bit.

OP - I am sorry you do not like your new truck. I have the Sport DBSB MT and love it. I have towed 22' boats a few times, dump trailers loaded with 2 to 3 yards of 50/50 mix some stone etc..), and mostly my landscape trailer with a JD 2305 or my ex-mark mowers helping friends. This truck has plenty of power to tow these around, but again this is a MT, I never drove the AT. Try the MT and stick around the forums - good place

@Woodrow F Call Does the OVTune improve the automatic trans models as well? Is there input from owners with the 3.5 V6 and AT running the Tune? Thanks.

This is just a trial balloon here...spit ballin'.... but has anyone who hates their cars/trucks considered ...I dunno...maybe purchasing a different vehicle ....or test driving it?...unlike a cheap street hooker Toyota does allow you to peak under the hood first.
