No. Single yellowtop optima. I never winch without the truck running.
I've used it to pull cedar logs and box bushes out of the ground. It's handy for so many things.

I also run a tube bumper that's probably just as light as all that stuff I removed and some 881 coils up front. It's not super heavy at all.

Here's my old setup with cable and roller lead. The cable is heavy as he'll and unsafe.

Then switched to amsteel synth, fairlead and a factor 55 thimble. Hooks a pretty dangerous as well.
Used one for a while and got away from them altogether.

All of that makes sense. I wish my son would go fishing with me. He doesn't have the patience. I could have really used something last winter. All we ever get is ice here. Ended up having to help get my brothers Mazda out of a ditch.

The only reason, and this is Down the road when my truck in paid for, I would want dual batteries, is if I was in a bad spot with water and needed to shut my truck off as to not ruin my engine. I've read people will use a battery with their truck off to winch themselves out of deep water, then use the other battery to start once they are in the clear. But then I guess i would need a bigger alternator. Maybe I should just stay out of deep water, that sounds like a bad idea anyways.

one option that people forget, is a front 2" receiver hitch and a cradle/plug setup for a winch. thats what im doing, since the only use my winch will ever see is pulling broken racecars out of ditches and onto trailers. also, if you run the anderson plugs to the front and back near the hitch, and you put a connector on the ends of a set of jumper cables, you can give people a jump without ever popping the hood. or whatever your heart desires that runs off of 12v and dosent pull more amperage than your winch does. It also means your winch can be thrown in the bed easily when your not using it, so its not exposed to the elements all the time.

Ultimately for me, the straw that broke the camel's back was went I went on a friend date and drove 5 hrs to Daniel Boone state forest. My girls friend drove 4 hrs to meet me and we decided to wheel.

No winch and about 2 miles off the main rd, I get stuck, like major stuck.
It's 100 degs and all I have is a hi Jack, some tow straps and a few rocks. I used the hi Jack as a come a long and 3 hrs later, with no water, tired...I finally made it out.
Pretty much ruined the entire trip.

ive still always felt that the best use of the high lift winch thing was as a backup incase your main winch fails, because while it will get the job done, its painfully slow and in the wrong weather conditions can be downright dangerous due to exposure. i also belive everyone should have one regardless as they are one one of the best and cheapest extrication tools available to the weekend warrior offroader, right behind a prybar and a cheater pipe.

Honestly, I believe a set of traction boards would have gotten me unstuck. I carry 2 of those as well now.

Bennies are a push really. Seem very similar. Money is equivalent to me going to days at current job (loss of differential) but with career growth potentail. Current status is no upward path exists.
