Where are you in az? And what kind of permit you got? I’m in Tucson and always down to put some miles on out in the desert.

In the valley. Just have my basic hunting/fishing license. No specific tags, didn't want to waste money on them if they weren't going to get used.

Would like to get a coyote or 2 for the pelts. I'm definately going to put in for deer next time the raffle comes around.

There are coyotes everywhere. Find a spot that you can hunt and see what you can call in with a rabbit distress call. Mouth calls are cheap and effective, you can get one for about $20. Just watch a YouTube video on how to do it and give it a shot.

As far as deer go, the draw can be frustrating and dealing with crowds can be hard too. If you’re looking for a new hobby, you can buy over the counter archery deer tags for $45. Some units are open late August-early september, and most units are open December 15-January 31st. No draw involved, all you need is a bow and a tag.

Any turkey hunters in here? I want to put in for the spring draw and I'm unsure of which unit to put in for. Also can anyone identify if this is a goulds or a merriam?

That’s a Gould’s, Merriams have more cream colored tips on the tail feathers. I’ve never hunted turkey in AZ, only rio grandes and merriams in TX. I know they are all over the Catalina mountains but I doubt you can hunt them there. Other than that, up north around flagstaff is probably your best bet. I’ve seen literally thousands of turkeys on camp Navajo. I would think unit 6A and 6B would both be good units to try

Sweet. Thanks bro. I've been trying to figure out how the hell to tell the difference but the interwebs aren't much help. Ive seen wild turkeys in aravaipa canyon, Mt. Lemon and down by Parker canyon lake but I think those are all goulds habitats.

Chances are if you’re at high elevation it’s a merriams. Gould’s tend to be further south, at least here in AZ. I would be surprised if you came across a Gould’s up in flag. Then again hybrids are possible, and the two are almost identical as is

I think that's why I'm having trouble finding clear identifiers between the two.

It’s definitely tough to tell, put in for 6A and 6B and smoke one. The Tom in those pics is a beast for AZ, if you see one like that on a hunt lay the smack down on that dude!

I put in this year and did not draw. I think you need to pick all the hunts in one unit and apply for them all. Same with elk tags. YOU MUST APPLY FOR ELK TAGS. Its a requirement.

Im not in AZ but the Merriams look different as in colored different, those have more white color as opposed to the merriams they are more chocolate color and tan instead of where the white is.If that makes sense.

wow those squirrels are huge! what do they eat? You could feed a family with those!
